Root [CDMA] Battery Life? MIk Runny=awesome

mteezey

Android Enthusiast
I just flashed mikRUNNY v1.6 wvga and the battery life is amazing. THe best i have had with any rom. I know now that olympus really was a crap rom i had terrible battery life on that but viper and nocturnal xplod i noticed some difference. But with this its like night and day i thought my battery drain was normal when it used to drain about 10 percent an hour while using it. I am at 4 hours of use with like 90 percent used from display and i still have 85 percent left. If your looking for awesome battery life and not worried about 4g this rom is awesome. i always thought these phones just ate the battery up i can see now it was mainly the rom/kernels.

I've been getting better battery life on Mikrunny than I've gotten on any other rom. I've been running it since 1.0. It's great.

be careful with that rom. I flashed it and after many hours of uptime when i rebooted its been in htc bootloop ever since. I have reflashed recovery, factory resets, tried installing pg86img and they are all doing the same thing. I have never been stuck like this on any phone even when i tried to brick my og evo. Everyone is telling me since i can still get into bootlaoder im fine but i cannot get any terminal comands to work on my pc. It just says they are not recognized or a batch file. i checked the envinromental variables and have it set right. idk anyways i hope it works good for you otherwise were gonna have to start calling it brikRUNNY or mikRUIN. lol jk i do want to trademark those though if more people get this problemlol i love mik roms though i think my problem was from twrp didnt flash it right and once i rebooted it set it off. *end rant

Heh, I went a day and a half on one full charge running SupraROM v2.1 with Chad's pre-RLS 002 kernel. Overclocked to 1.5GHz on Smartass v2 gov.

Seeing as how you're the only one out of thousands to have any trouble like this I highly doubt it was the rom. There's always a risk but I think something else might have gotten your phone. Maybe it was just its time to die... Who knows?

I cant figure out what caused it. Especially since it wasnt even during a flash. So yea it sould of been time. the phone wasnt very old though and i wasnt too hard on it. from what we have put together it is a problem with twrp and not jsut that rom but the new ota base. Im not actually the only one this happened to though. I was just the only stupid one that tried to fix it without fastboot. And dug myself in deeper. Its really messed up too cause i just went and bought a new 3vo a few minutes ago and i really liked that rom so i dont know what im gonna flash now. If i even do. I might try (i highly emphasize the word try there). And wait for ICS.

I read this and flashed this ROM yesterday and was blow away with how long my phone stayed charged at 99% (it never really hits 100% since I bought it).

I started loading up all my apps, widgets to screens and all the etc which takes a while. Got a phone call afterwards and my phone reset. 2nd time it froze up while I was on a call. I was pissed because it happened right after I loaded everything up.

I decided I maybe one of the apps caused this so I started from scratched. Wiped factory twice, system twice, cache, dalvin , battery and so on. I'm using TWRP 2.0 btw. So I did it all over again and refrained from installing System Panel (ful version) and Google Voice and Roam Control. I loaded everything else again, activated 4 emails & changed settings & etc. unchecked auto sync news, weather, stocks, unchecked notification flashes..All the things to save even more battery life. I then did a backup Nandroid right after BEFORE adding google voice and system panel. That way I could just go back if it went bad.

So after I did this last night around 11:40 pm my phone was charged at 98%. Couldnt believe it. Then of course I went to check my voicemail and phone was froze. No biggie. Decided I'd just flash Nandroid. When I did it flashed it didnt even take 2 seconds. I knew something was wrong. Even with the compressed backup there was no way it could of flashed in such short time. I tried to try again. Did the same thing. Rebooted. Wouldnt go past the white HTC screen. Ended up going back to Clean Rom and was going to update my profile and give it another shot with less apps. Before I do...

Does anyone have an idea whats going on here? Even thinking of trying MikRunny 3vo v1.01 instead since I seen the review on youtube showed this as being a stable ROM. Just wondering if I'll get the same battery life and or better results with an older version. Any help is appreciated!

These are the apps I install after every flash if that helps

Audio Manager
Netflix
Hulu
AK Note Pad
Ringer Toggle Widget
Roam Control (decided not to since he has this cooked in already)
Handcent
Google Voice (older version 0.4.2.32 since new version doesnt allow option to Toggle on every call...least last time I checked on Evo 4G when I had that phone. although I didnt add on last flash)
Boot Control
Auto Rotate Switch 1.7
Astro
Wifi Tether 3.1
System Panel (full version although I didnt add on last flash)
Swift Key (come to think of it. This app was giving me issues. I wasnt able to see cut and paste option and took me a while to figure out how to enable it. Almost like the ROM didnt want to allow this keyboard)
Spoof App
Skyfire
Opera
SD Card Storage Optimzer
Movies
Ebuddy
Brightness Level 2.2.0
Cache Mate for Root users
Battery Indicator 4.0.4
App Brain
Titanium Back Up (full version)

I either never heard of these apps or suspect they may have something to do with it:

Ringer Toggle Widget - Never used it
Roam Control - Changing your PRL mid call could do some serious chaos.
Boot Control - What does this do?
Auto Rotate Switch 1.7 - Never heard of it. Is it a widget that just prevents auto rotate?

Spoof App - ???
SD Card Storage Optimzer - Might cause FCs if an app is on SD card when the app optimizes the SD card, but shouldn't freeze the phone

Ebuddy - ???
Cache Mate for Root users - Does this just clear cache and dalvik? Android is unstable if you clear out the dalvik without rebooting.

Battery Indicator 4.0.4 - Is this a widget?

Ringer Toggle Widget - just a faster way to toggle ringer off and on
Roam Control - has been out since Evo 4G came out. Forces phone to roam (not mid call but when you need it on command. He has ta roaming option built in the ROM accordling to change log so it shouldnt be this. Although as I said during 2nd flash I didnt install it)
Boot Control - it reboots your phone with a widget instead of using the hard button. prevents wear on button
Auto Rotate Switch 1.7 -Never heard of it. Is it a widget that just prevents auto rotate? correct

Spoof App - ???Changes your caller ID when making calls. Nothing serious and costs minutes.
SD Card Storage Optimzer - Might cause FCs if an app is on SD card when the app optimizes the SD card, but shouldn't freeze the phone. I 'll look out for this.

Ebuddy - All chats in one.yahoo, hotmail, msn,fb, aol and etc.
Cache Mate for Root users - Does this just clear cache and dalvik? Android is unstable if you clear out the dalvik without rebooting. I believe one of the times I flashed this rom before it froze I did clear just for good measure so I'll try this without the Cache Mate

Battery Indicator 4.0.4 - Its a Battery Life app that basically shows exactly what your phone is using just by clicking widget in top left corner and pulling it down.

None of these apps listed gave me any issues on Clean Rom, Xplod_XE_E3D, OTXE Titan,Warm-TwoPointThree-RLS1-shooter, Android_Revolution_HD-Evo3D_CDMA, infectedrom-eternity-evo3d and several others. I've been rooting phones for about 2 yrs now and most of these are just previous popular apps from Evo 4G that turned out to work on Evo3d as well. But I'm staring to think maybe this ROM particular may not like one of the apps I have

Thanks for the tips. I have to say this was the best battry life I've seen on this phone and the Evo 4G prior to it freezing up. I gotta get it working

Hmm...it could be that your phone just does not like that ROM. My phone hates a lot of ROMs. And by hates I mean it'll freeze or random reboot or random reboot and freeze while rebooting. Usually when I'm using as a GPS on a highway. So I've stayed with CleanROM.

Also...what kernel are you running? A kernel can have a pretty severe impact on phone stability. I'm a recent fan of AnthraX. Really good on power consumption. Especially with a CPU tool to underclock the phone when the screen is off.

anthrax was my kernel of choice. I actually just bought a new 3vo just rooted and trying to decide what im gonna run as a daily i wanna try not to mess with it. Im thinking about still rom im just nervous since i havent had to fastboot flash anything on my old phone.

Your right. I think it hates this rom. I tried the older version of this rom MikRunny-3vo-v1.02- and it was worst. I decided not to add too many apps to trouble shoot and last night it started freezing and reseting to the point I couldnt get to home screen. I have an airrave at the house so that may have had something to do with it being I've seen some issues come up with updating PRLs and profile when not done right. I also seen he has another coming out so I'd be willing to give it a shot being its the best battery ROM I've tried yet. On Clean Now. Stable with decent battery.

I also seen on another forum the reason I couldnt flash my Nandroid after is you cant flash a custom kernel? Can anyone verify this and what the Kernel is for this ROM. I'd like to see if I use that kernel on Clean Rom if I'd have better battery life. Is it Anthrax? I'm using Tiamat 1.1.0 now

I doubt the airave has any impact on your phone crashing. Even if a PRL or profile update goes awry, the only thing that will be impacted is your cell service.

I also have a hard time following you in the second part. So on Mik's ROM, you heard that you can't flash a custom kernel if you restore a NANDroid? Umm...that'd be pretty weird if it were true.

The kernel Mik is using is the GPL-friendly version of the AnthraX kernel. It's a solid kernel. There are alternate versions of his kernel that are accessible on that server that are more frequently updated. Currently, I'm running 2.6.38.6-REV_013 and it looks pretty solid so far.

As for battery saving, I think Anthrax does better than Tiamat.

I tried flashing the older version of this ROM and it kept resetting so your right about the airwave.

I went back to see where I read that about flashing custom kernels and the it actually says "Your problem is that this Rom comes with a custom kernel and you can't flash roms with custom kernels the normal way". post 46

MikRunny v1.06 - [ Sense 3.5 | GB 2.3.5 | 1/22/2012 ] - [ CDMA ] - Page 5

I downloaded 2.6.38.6-REV_013 to see if I had better luck. You mentioned he uses a GPL-friendly version of the AnthraX. Do you know what its called exactly?? I havent noticed an immediate difference on 013 like I did on Mik Runny but after I let it run for a few days I want to use the same kernel he uses on latest version of Mik Runny for the Clean Rom.
