Root [CDMA] Can Boost Moto G Still Be Unlocked?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but haven't seen it. I am thinking of buying the Moto G for Boost Mobile, but want to know if new models can still be bootloader unlocked, ultimately rooted and running CM11. Reason I ask is I got burnt with the LG L9 (the new models had an encrypted bootloader, so the 100's of posts and guides and bricking I went through over on XDA turned out to be pointless) And off topic this seems to be a pretty good budget phone minus the battery being non replaceable and lack of micro sd.. Any thoughts?

Although I cannot say for sure, but I have not read (here and xda) of anyone claiming that newer versions are unlock-able. I have read of a few people having trouble unlocking, but that may be due to other reasons like computer setup, drivers, misreading instructions, etc.

Off topic and to address your other question, I am very impressed with this phone. I came from the LG Marquee (which was a solid little phone), and the Moto G is quite the step up in specs and performance. It runs basically anything I throw at it with ease. Only being 3G does not bother me, as I don't use that much data, and 4G is still catching up in my area. (In my opinion, people should really look at what they use their phone for before bashing the Moto as only 3G.) My calls are clear and crisp.

Battery life is good, and some would even say great.

I have the 8 GB (Boost), so the storage space is a little tight, but I use use the Mini MicroSD Card Reader by Meenova with a 32 GB class 10 card. Works great for storing music, movies, and all of my backups. I keep it on my keychain, so it is always with me. It is also very unobtrusive (as least to me) and does not interfere when using the phone.

I would call it a "budget phone" only in price.

Hope this helps...

Awesome.. Yeah I haven't seen anything about not being able to unlock it either. Fairly certain the verizon is not unlockable by 'normal means' any more (have to send some guy money and your imei for a code.. lots doing it on XDA) so just had to ease my mind a little more. That Mini MicroSD Reader is definitely going to be one my first purchases for this phone, so thanks for that too. Do you run stock or a custom rom on yours?

I just re-flashed SuperR's stock deodexed and the aero kernel this morning, and I am running it with Google Now Launcher, with Xposed Framework and Gravity Box and XGels (paid) modules. Xposed really adds a lot of feature that were previously only available on custom roms. I have always had issues with mms on custom roms (there is a fix), but I really like the visual voicemail from stock. It doesn't work on custom roms.

That being said, Seraph's Paranoid Android Rom is really great. It is buttery smooth, and it has just the features I want. It's simple, elegant, and doesn't have a gazillion options to get lost in. Some folks may like all those features, but to me they are just overkill.

I do follow the XDA threads, and there is a lot to absorb. But the development for this phone is strong, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down.

But my above setup gives me what I want, and the developers (Seraph, SuperR, and others) here are very helpful, as well as many of the forum members. With such a strong community here, I don't think you will regret the purchase. It has the most bang for the buck on Boost Mobile.

By the way, this thing runs just great on stock.

Yeah seems like a good little phone, especially for the price.. From what I've seen pretty much unbrickable too with the unlocked bootloader and fastboot (time to learn that now :) Will definitely put those ROMs towards the top of the list to check out.. Seems very active still.. Always liked AF for the tight knit community, looks like I'll be back (L9 ruined it for me for awhile back, spent most time bricking and unbricking the phone over on XDA lol) Thanks again for the help.

What's your OS? And are you turning it on into fastboot? And is USB Debugging turned on?

Yeah I got it unlocked rooted and installed a custom rom now. I used internet explorer. I used that browser before but it didnt work, so I just kept trying over and over and it finally worked randomly lol. Thanks!
