Root [CDMA] can't run fastboot on Mac

My goal is to root my Moto G on Boost but I can't even see if it is unlockable.

It's in fast boot mode and hooked up to my MacBook Pro via USB. I ran the MDM_Installer_2.1.8 package but I don't see any Motorola apps nor do I see the Moto G on the desktop.

In the terminal, I go to the directory where fastboot is located, run...

fastboot oem get_unlock_data

and here's what I get...

What is going on? Where is the Motorola Device Manager? Thanks.

OK, I got Linux installed. Bootcamp had nothing to do with it, BTW. Now what do I do? :o

open terminal
do this
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot
do all of that one by one then plug your device in and do
Code:
 sudo fastboot devices
and your device should show up
after that fastboot should be set up

I did that with the G in fastboot mode and nothing happened...

$ sudo fastboot devices
TA96500TGW fastboot

That's not the string that the Motorola site is looking for, is it.

If you're running the Mini-SDK on OS X you don't need to sudo the command. Only Linux.

Devices is just that - confirmation that you're connected to a device.

Try your original command from the first post now.

put all of the code under that together without the breaks and boom

Thanks, EarlyMon, but I couldn't find the mini sdk. The only link I found was dead. I found the minimal linux sdk, though.

Anyway, I'm transitioning to Ubuntu as my main OS because Mavericks starts crashing every time I install a program it doesn't like, it seems. I recently rebuilt my Mac starting with a new partition/installation etc and rebuilt the whole thing. It was working crash free for awhile but now it crashes again (usually after a few hours) and I'm just tired. Ubuntu, however, is not crashing at all with the program that seemingly broke Mavericks (rEFIt). How ironic. :smokingsomb:

That's my fault about it being hard to find, in my mind I totally left this link -

Here for others who might find this thread in the future.

Don't blame you for going to Ubuntu, it seems like they just keep taking away features and breaking things anyway.

Glad you got it sorted, good luck! :)

I believe that's the link I tried before. Here is the message I get...
Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator

I get it in both Safari and Firefox on Ubuntu. Must be something other than a cache issue?

It's not just you. I tried with three different browsers and got the same error

Wow! You're good!

What was it that gave it away?

The Dolphin browser? The status bar that doesn't look like Sense? The navbar that doesn't look like stock Sense? :D

Maybe it was the button shape?

You can change those if you like.

Check out "Ultimate Dynamic Navbar"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.udn

You can even choose your favorite style - Sense. :)

i hope i didnt upset you lol i have actually never owned an htc device, so sorry but thanks for the app:)

Upset?

I hope you're joking - otherwise, I have to apologize.

I was going for playful and I must have really missed it.

No, seriously, I am running Sense 6.

Sense is usually a love it or hate it deal. I'm probably in between, so I mod mine until I like it.

I'd likely have to mod anything until I like it.

That app just got updated so I used all that as an excuse to share.

Sorry that my being a smarta$$ didn't come out well. :o

Finally got it rooted. Yay hey. Did it on my Mac using superboot...

chmod +xsuperboot-mac.sh
sudo ./superboot-mac.sh

Now I'm up to my armpits in mods I want to do. I got Root Explorer and SQLite. Thanks for y'alls help.   :)
