Root [CDMA] CRAP - Used the old 3vo 4g root method on 3D...

Ok so for some dumb reason late last night I started to root my phone. Apparently I didn't pay attention and went to this website and followed these instructions...

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

I didn't realize it was the Evo 4g and not the 3D. Obviously I ran into some problems. This is the summary of my problems....

I got this far twice.....

Beta key accepted - thank you for participating!

Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. Root acquired!
Sending in Caroline...
Cleaning up...
Rebooting to fastboot...
When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back!
Waiting for fastboot...

After that it told me it couldn't communicate with the phone... I rebooted and it updated PRL etc. Also does the vol down + power button thing not work anymore like it did on evo4g?

Hmmm tried to make a call now, and it is some guy telling me error #16 And something about an authentication code...

I am reading the thread for a solution...

I have debugging on and I do not have HTC Sync installed nor do I have PDAnet (at least neither come up in a search).

When it dissconnects me it leaves my phone on the white screen with the following....

-Revolutionary-
shooter xc ship S-OFF RL
hboot 1.40.1100
radio 0.97.00.0518
emmc-boot
-gives the date here

fastboot usb
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down

It has not asked me anything about Clockwork Recovery Mod

woke up this morning and my phone is asking me if I want to download system upgrade 1.13.651.7 - FOTA update.

Anyone?

Looks like you have s-off, so that's all that matters. You need to flash a custom recovery probably.

See here for directions to get your recovery.

EDIT: Wait a second...Looks like you have the 3d? If that's the case you will need TWRP for your recovery. Can you get to recovery?

If you mean the vol down + power.... no. I can only get to that screen if I run revolutionary. It then says it loses communication (or something) with the phone and I get the options I listed above...to go into bootloader etc etc.

Also txt msgs do not work.

I restarted my phone and as it stands I can use the internet, mail etc but I can't make phone calls.

While I would like to get the custom ROM going I definitely need to get back my ability to make calls and send txt I am at home with my 2 year old son so phone calls are kinda important. *lol*

Should I go and install that update?

Btw yes I do have the 3d. What is twrp?

Got to the point where it tells me to install the .zip file. I click it and it goes this far....

Mounting system...
Deleting System: bin/su...
Deleting System: xbin/su...
E:Error in /sdcard/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
installation aborted.

So in a short summary my phone now has the s-off and it eventually got to installing clock work recovery. I am just not sure if it is the right one. I am also stuck on installing the .zip file.

So how bad did I F up? What do I need to do to fix it? Now that I realize what I did, is the .zip file I installed the wrong one(su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip)?

Ok so I am doing some reading and I think I used the correct program. I used this website...

Revolutionary

Now the questions I am having are follows. I have s-off and clock work mod was installed ( i am pretty sure at least). So now what do I do? I tried to flash this super user .zip (superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip) and that is where I left off. It obviously did not work.

So am I correct in thinking all I need to do is find the correct .zip?

Just another bit of info...

I booted into recovery and at the top it says "Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4"

I also have a notification wanting me to update to "1.13.651.7" What do I do with that?

don't take the update.

the su flashing problem you experienced is very common. I got the same error, reflashed, and it worked. Not entirely sure how others resolved it; I believe there's another version floating around. Hopefully someone can point you to it.

Hang in there; you're almost done. And while I have your attention: never ever accept an update once you're rooted. bad things can happen.

Yeah I figured no the update. I remembered it was a no-no from when I rooted my evo 4g.

I tried flashing it a few times but wasn't sure if it was the right thing to flash. I thought maybe it didn't work because it was a file that belongedb on the og evo. you don't have a link to what Should be flashed?

Swype is acting real buggy. Is that normal or is it possible that it got goofed during the root

The Fastboot being turned off definitely helps. But completely shutting the phone off first helps more (yank the battery or hit shutdown in the bootloader). Especially when it comes to flashing radios and recoveries.

When I upgraded to 2.3.4's radios and upgraded to the newest TWRP, I tried to power down using Android's shutdown menu (with fastboot off). The bootloader would come up, but it would not detect PG86IMG.zip. Even though I was in the bootloader.

So I went to shutdown in the bootloader and shut off the phone. I turned it back on using vol down + power and the bootloader would detect PG86IMG.zip. It was odd to say the least, but consistent.
