Root [CDMA] File System Question Regarding Flashing

No nothing preventing you, Nandroid is your friend, but just to be safe, once you do a backup, I would check the backup out to make sure it is good, you can check the MD5 check sum, but I would physically check the Rom backup myself, since this would be your first back up to avoid any issues, to make sure it restores, once that back up is good, then you are good to go. make sure if you are on HBoot 1.5 that you follow the proper flash instructions.

I have not heard of that Rom, but I would also recommend the Zred ICS Rom or Meanrom and from a Dev that is well know, Good Luck

So, I'm running Stock right now, but would like to try out a new ICS ROM. The ROM in question (Cool ICS v6 EvoC | Cool Devs) apparently uses the EXT4 file system, so my question is that if I make a full nandroid backup, then flash this ROM, is there anything preventing me from recovering to the stock backup?

Kind of a noob question, but want to make sure I'm covering all my bases. Thanks.

EXT4 is a SD card mod. Back up your SD card before proceeding, but I've flashed plenty of EXT4 ROMs without a problem.

I didn't realize this at all. Thanks for the heads up.

So, given that, am I to assume that other ROMs that are non EXT4 don't have the same kind of SD card mod?

I'd be surprised if you would find a non-EXT4 ROM now. I just bet most ROM devs just don't mention it because people don't understand what's going on and if you have any recovery that isn't CWM (or lower than TWRP 1.1.1), you'll flash it without even knowing.

Most of the time, they call them "SD card speed tweaks" or something like that.

It has nothing to do with your sd cards, it's how your file system on your phone is formatted, either ext3 or ext4. Ext4 has better wear leveling algorithms for nand memory compared to ext3, whereas ext3 is sometimes slightly faster. Most sd cards are formatted fat32 unless you're using a swap file or apps2sd prior to FroYo.

Every sd card speed tweak that I'm aware of involves adjusting the read cache for the card on the phone. Depending on the phone and card involved smaller or larger values give you improved performance.
