Root [CDMA] help with possibly bricked htc evo 3d

Hi,
I rooted my HTC evo 3d. I was having problems w/ the phone dialer and the Wifi dropping signals, so i tried to do a recovery by following this web page:
http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...lash-recovery-image-via-fastboot-sd-card.html
I used the team win recovery image.
I can issue this command and get a response:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

sending 'recovery' (5132 kb)..
OKAY [1.547s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [9.023s]
finished. total time: 10.571s

The recovery image seems to load and work but then my phone boots up and shows the white HTC screen and then does not proceed any further. I have tried clearing the data as well. I have also copied the recovery image to the SD card and tried to flash the phone from the power+down buttom method.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

After you send the command to flash recovery it goes directly to HTC screen? Also when you put it on SD card to flash did you download the zip or put the img there?

issue the following fastboot command when connected to fastboot
fastboot boot recovery.img

if you boot to recovery, then do a factory reset and see if you can boot

wipe everything

report back

Hi,
Issuing that command above was successful. I got to Team Win Recovery TWRP v1.0.3.
I did the clear and format the rom.
Then, i selected the recovery image and then loaded it onto the SD card via the USB cable with the evo 3d mounted. I then selected the IMG to flash and then selected flash on the evo 3d. i get this message on the phone:

Install /sdcard..
finding update package...
opening update package...
E: cant open /tmp/sideload/package.zip (bad)

Does this mean that the file got corrupt?
This is the file i downloaded:
TeamWin Projects - TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp) | TeamWin

PG86IMG-twrp-shooter-1.1.1.zip
it was small, like 5mgs.
