Root [CDMA] HTC 1.5 unlock method

Lurker
I unlocked my phone using the 1.5 unlock method, yet rom manager and titanium backup still say my phone isn't rooted. I'm new to this, any advice?

Welcome to the forums buddy!!! :D

First question is what guide did you use? The one posted by Novoxx or jerofld?

Did you use the SDK to flash a recovery and the superuser app?

You told me your bootloader says unlocked, correct?

Also a good idea is to boot into hboot and post exactly what you see on that screen. The more info we get the 3vo gurus the better. :)

You probably just need to flash a rooted ROM. A link to the stock ROM + root can be found in my guide:

http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...ms-kernels-using-fastboot-updated-3-26-a.html

Once you download it (It's listed in step 2), you can flash it using the instructions posted in the quick guide section at the bottom of the post. That is...if you have a custom recovery. If you read the guide I posted, you should find the things you missed and be on your way to being rooted.

Thanks my man!!

OK, so he can use recovery just like any other rooted phone, correct?

Just boot to recovery and perform all wipes and flashes manually from there, no sdk needed from here on out. I'm trying to get a feel for this myself, because I'll probably be doing this as well soon. ;)

danmartos is a college buddy of mine, figured I'd help out as much as I can!! :)

Well I guess the gangs all here. :D

I just stopped in to see how Granite's bro was doing and ended up with a question of my own...how on Gods green earth does jerofld's root guide only have 5 (well now 6) thanks button presses? Dude, that's a killer guide. You should get an award or something.

Anyway, enough hijacking. You're in good hands Dan.

Unfortunately, no. He can't just use recovery like what you're used to with the Evo 4G. He has to do one of these things:

1) Boot into recovery via fastboot. Which requires either the Android SDK proper, or the mini SDK that is linked in my guide (under step 1). Once recovery is loaded through fastboot, it's identical to everything else (wipe cache, dalvik, data if needed, etc etc). If you, Rocky, look in the "Quick Guide" section of my walkthrough, you'll see the differences are minor. It's just those first few steps to use fastboot that matter.

2) He could use recovery like everyone else, but WiFi and WiMAX won't work until he flashes the kernel using FlashGUI (found here: http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...h-kernels-recoveries-normal-android-mode.html)

3) Downgrade to HBOOT 1.4 using either: [TOOL] HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit Live CD - xda-developers or [DOWNGRADE HBOOT/UNBRICK] HBOOT 1.50 (And possibly future/other devices) - xda-developers. Reading the instructions to either is extremely important. One requires an actual install of Linux, the other requires a blank CD. After he's downgraded to 1.4, he can use revolutionary and get S-OFF.

4) Or use this mod: HTC DUMLOCK - Flash boot from recovery without fastboot! (Updated 2012-02-28 v2) - xda-developers - I've never used it nor have I talked to anyone who has tried it, so I don't know how well it works.

So, for simplicity sake, I usually refer people through option #1. It's a little more straight forward. But, if your buddy is so inclined, I really recommend option #3 for S-OFF.

People use the guide and it helps them. I get PMs every so often asking me for clarification and maybe some other questions. But they usually also thank me for such a useful write up. So /shrug. The thanks count would be nice (I won't lie about that, lol), but I the number of headaches it has already prevented is also very nice :)

Sorry I unlocked it through the HTC site, then used JTNiggle to [GUIDE] HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 + TWRP Recovery + Root + Flash!! [9.11.11]
This guide will leave you with S-on, but you can still flash any ROM, kernel, theme or most anything you want.

The limitation with HTC's unlock method is that the boot partition is not flashable from recovery. This means that Kernels and ROM's with custom kernels must be flashed from Fastboot. It's easy, just see the 2nd post for the guide.

This morning my phone was just a phone to me, and I hope that you're right about me falling for this Sh...tuff. I truly appreciate the help, and would throw some thanks out there, but I didn't know that was an option. A lot of my confusion seems to be that I've been working with windows my whole life (until 2 weeks ago), and am now using an iMac, and most of the instructions are based on windows. Sorry for the wait, I was cleaning (appraiser coming on Friday) and putting the kids to bed.

Well, that throws a monkey wrench in things. I know Mac's automaticall unzip files upon download. You need to turn that option off in Safari so .zip files stay zipped up. Give me a sec to find the settings location. :)

For the rest, I'm clueless from a Mac perspective. :(

Edit: Found it, Go to safari preferences and uncheck Open "safe" files after downloading files will no longer unzip/unstuff.

Well, you're unlocked. That's what matters.

Go to this thread: http://androidforums.com/faqs/443072-adb-guide-updated-12-05-2011-a.html

Grab Mini SDK. It has a fastboot for Mac. Then go to my guide and start from step 2. Skip step 4 as you have already done it. And when you see reference to windows directory structure, use the directory where use installed it on your Mac. The fastboot commands will be identical for mac, windows, or linux.

Sweet Jesus!! I didn't know this existed. You are the man jerofld!! Thanks for the help. :)
