Root [CDMA] HTC security update 2.08.651.3 rolling out 10/25/11. **ROOT USERS DISCUSS ONLY**

I think THIS is what I was waiting for...but since this is my first rodeo with an update on a rooted phone, what exactly do I do with that file?
I rooted via HTC's unlock method and have been on the stock rom.
Sorry I'm asking root questions in the main root board
According to joey this update will overwrite your kernal and recovery. I wouldn't mess with it...

I woke my phone to a "Your system has been updated" screen earlier this evening. Not sure if it is this one or not, but I never saw or accepted any update!

Pretty sure it said system, others have said service but I would not have been upset about a service update if I saw that.

You will most likely have to reroot again, but you may have to root the HTC unlock way. I am sure some others will chime in.

You will have to use the HTC unlock, but to be sure boot into recovery and check your hboot version, 1.3 &1.4 are rootable using Revolutionary, 1.5 has to use the HTC method.

If you didn't know that you shouldn't take an update while rooted, you do now. And if you didn't know there might be consequences to taking said update, you do now. Like everyone said, you will likely have to reroot via HTC method.
Just curious, does your bootloader still say "unlocked"? If so, you might be able to just reflash recovery and superuser. That is just a WAG on my part but would be interested to know that answer. Also, I keep hearing grumblings that they may be close to cracking Hboot 1.50....although I am skeptical about that.

Well depends on which recovery you want to install, I like CWM, but others like TWRP, so once you decide on that, then you simply flash the recovery of your choice, and then you can download the SuperUser app from the market after that. You can download Clockworkmod from the market, and we can explain how to flash the recovery with it if that is what you are going to use.

Here you go. You can read through all of this thread if you wish but what you are looking for is in post #11. That will get you TWRP recovery. I think you can then flash SU from recovery. The version that seems to work best is 3.6.3.6....or something like that. Just google "superuser for evo 3d" and you should find it. If not, I can email it to you.
