Root [CDMA] HTCDEV.com bootloader unlock: s-on with CWM + root access

Doomstang - MANY THANKS!!!

OK - now - can you install CWM 4.0.1.5 -- or do you even want to try?

4.0.1.4 has charging issues when the phone is off.

Yw
I guess I could give it a try....where's it at? What if I go into ROM manager and tell it to install CWM from there, think that will be ok?

If you can't install 4.0.1.5, Doom, you may be able to charge while off if you shut down with "Fastboot" enabled in the power section, so long as you don't yank the battery. Not the best solution, but it will let you do a battery calibration.

I clicked update recovery in ROM Manager and it said 4.0.1.5 successfully installed after I granted it SU permissions. Had it reboot into recovery from ROM manager and the phone just restarted...so I manually went to recovery via HBoot and it fails to load and restarts the phone. I guess I'll push that 4.0.1.4 back to it now.

Safely back to 4.0.1.4 now~

This whole thing has me worried, though. Will the NANDroid backups work right? HTC just needs to let us set S-OFF and be done with it.

I guess I don't fully understand what S-OFF achieves since I've been able to do everything I want (root access) and assume I could flash a new rom right now if I wanted. In CWM recovery I did a backup and it saved 1.42 gb of data to a folder on my SD card (that's also now saved on my computer's external HD). Am I wrong to believe I did a NANDroid backup?

Doomstang,

If you can flash a new rom then im in since thats all i really wanna be able to do :).. LOL! If not then I may just wait to see whats next from revolutionary since my phone updated to hboot 1.50. :(

You indeed did a nandroid backup - but can you restore?

Seems things are sensitive to signatures on stuff. So - maybe roms will install - not sure myself...

I guess since its friday night and Im 2 beers in im not flashing anything tonight.. LOL!!!!

** Note ** Never - Ever Flash a Rom while intoxicated.. ask My 1st PSP about that one.. LOL!!!!

Did you try flashing CWM 4.0.1.5 through Fastboot? ROM manager may not be able to flash it because you're still S-ON.

This was my concern. Restoring the NAND may not take.

Yep...and I got the exact same result.

Interesting....I have not yet tried a restore. Glad to know that this may be giving me a false sense of security. At least I've got a Titanium Backup.

ive did the htc unlock then flashed cwm and then did a stock backup afterwards have flashed 3 roms none of wich allow tethering to work using mullers wifi tether app the stable one on market nor any betas on his google code page need i try rooting stock and see if that works and also when in the roms 4g and regular wifi along with the sprint hotspot do not work

EDIT3 ....... cwm 4.0.1.4 using su2.3.6.3 flash package and using mullins wifi tether 3beta 3 works like a charm on hboot 1.50 and htc unlock with s-on

EDIT.... im on hboot 1.50 and i dont rememebr wich cwm i flashed but i flashed supra and bloody beast both were pre rooted with bb 1.19 get adrynaline and upto date su binarys and whitelist app im gonna try finding a kernel with hotspot support built in ill come back with progress report in a few....... s-on still

Cool.

Can you flash a 2.3.3 rom? if so can you flash modified kernel?
can you flash a different radio?
Can you you flash 2.3.3 ruu or bootloader?

Just wondering how 'unlocked' this bootloader really is.

"To prevent unauthorized access to your data, unlocking the bootloader will delete all personal data from your device including applications, text messages and personalized settings."

Does this mean if I do this i'll lose all of my data? Anyway to back it up?

Haven't had to do any of those yet, but I don't see why they wouldn't. Once you have CWM installed, I've never had problems flashing anything. I can also make backups and all the other stuff that comes with CWM. All I've done really is make a backup and flash SU.zip I just wanted infrastructure

You will lose your data. You can backup which programs you have installed by using AppListBackup (on the market) and SMS Backup (on the market) AppList won't save your game saves. So you're basically starting anew. Once you're rooted you can use titanium backup to save your game states.

Anyone able to get wifi with custom roms? Or know of any kernels that work with 2.3.4 for wifi?? I couldn't but its time for bed haha looking forward to updates in the mornin!

In theory, if you were able to flash the old 1.30 bootloader through RUU, you could then S-OFF with revolutionary. Or am I off base?

Thats interesting.. I would love to know that too.. This may be something to think about... Maybe? I wish I would have used the s-off tool when I had the chance..>.<
