Either the bootloader will accept it and you'll flash that file. You'll then have the phone it was on June 24th on release day. No OTAs installed. You'll be S-ON with 1.30 and then can run Revolutionary for S-OFF.

Or it won't and you'll still have 1.50 and "unlocked" S-ON.

man all of this sounds so confusing. i'm still interested in rooting my evo, but is it recommended that i go with HTC's method or go with revolutionary? i installed the latest OTA update yesterday; does that affect anything?

Yes, if you installed the OTA then you cannot use revolutionary at this time, only the HTC method - and that is much more confusing, I think.

So, please go slow and ask questions, we'd rather have questions than anybuddy stuck on the process. ;) :)

ok thanks, i can wait in that case. so the main problem with HTC's method is that it only unlocks the bootloader and nothing further?

and how long do you think it'll be until people with the latest update can use revolutionary?

Possibly never. Alpha Rev X / unrEVOked apparently reported the exploit they used to HTC. I would imagine that exploit would have been fixed in HBOOT 1.50. So if that team never finds, or never tries to find, a new exploit, Revolutionary will never be updated.

Then again, they might find an exploit next week. You never know.

This is a real PIA....I got the thing unlocked but still trying to get CWN installed. I guess I am not that good at command prompts because I don't quite understand it....but I guess I am learning. I am trying to push it through fastboot...but to no avail. I will now try to put rename it and put it on the SD card and maybe the bootloader will recognize it. I have already tried it without adding .ZIP to the end of it thinking the puter attaches that be default. I got the ole triangle with the red exclamation point. Battery pull fixed it. I actually put both files on there with different names....one with .zip and one without....she didn't like that. Oh well, I will keep trying. I am at the point of need alcohol....haha. Will report back. Once I get recovery installed I will be in because I know what to do after that...

Edit:...still no luck. Maybe it is a bad cwm file. I still get the red triangle/!....I will go searching for a different source for cwm I guess

if you download rom manager from the app market, it will install clockworkmod recovery for you no problems

dang. so time to play the waiting game. hopefully someone finds out exactly how HTC's system works and gets us to where we want

Sorry, I ended up starting a new thread discussing this. You need to have SU permissions to use ROM Manager to flash cwm. At this point in the game, the only thing I had was "bootloader unlocked"...which means basically nothing reference SU. I also had tried to install the SU app but it won't work without SU either. So, for this method you need a custom recovery so you can flash an SU.zip file....then you are rooted.

I am not sure what you are saying here but I am fully rooted(but with S-on). I can do anything the S-off guys can do.

1)Unlock bootloader
2)Flash a custom recovery
3)Flash an SU.zip file

That is all there is to it. Sounds easy....took me a couple of days but I am a dummy when it comes to computers. Had everything gone smoothly it would have taken me less than 2 hours....maybe less than an hour. Now I am running CleanROM with the hotspot unlocked and wireless tether....it is an excellent ROM!!!!
