the steps over at xda are a little confusing, i downloaded the file for the phone installed on my phone then extracted it, i then went and double tap the root evo3 whatever it says and it says cannot find file, is there easier instructions

I did and how will the phone get rooted if I dont download the apk to my phone, that's what confused me, if you or anyone else can tell me exactly how to do it in lamens terms please

Temp root just re routes your system files to somewhere else. Because /system is locked with an encrypted key, you can not change it. So this temp root just walks around the locked areas and pretends they're not even there. Which is why everything gets reset to default once you reboot, because /system is unchanged.

It's like a detour in a highway. You're just detouring around a certain section. That section isn't changed, you just bypass it.

Run the file from your computer with the phone plugged in, charge only selected and usb debugging turned on. If you have the right driver it should work for you.
