Over at XDA they have added an ICS rom to their stock roms page. [ROM] Stock Rooted Htc Evo 3D/Shooter Odex & Deodex Roms 8/22/2012 (2.89 ADDED) - xda-developers

I have been looking for help on installing this because I am very new to rooting and have only flashed a stock rom via the complete newbies guide. This might be what you're looking for. Apologies if it is not. I actually just obtained s-off via the wire trick and would like to flash this. If this rom is what you're looking for maybe you could give me a couple tips for getting this on my phone as well.

ROMs {CDMA}

If you are already rooted and have S-OFF, then simply put this Rom on the root of your SD card, then create a nandroid of your current rom, then simply flash this Rooted Stock Rom.

Thank you DonB. I wasn't sure if it was that simple because I am brand new to this. By put it in the root of my sd do you mean anywhere? For example I have a folder called ROMs from when I rooted. Then do a backup. Probably clear cache and dalvik cache. I have 4-Ext. I can just use that to backup and flash? There are no extra steps to prepare for ICS? Just backup and flash? I know you said it's that simple but I just like to make sure I understand everything before I try it for the first time. Thank you Don!

Yes on your SD card and not in any folder. Hear it what you do, once you have you're Nandroid, then simply do a full wipe, flash and enjoy, may take 5 to 10 minutes to boot up at first so be patient.

Just an update. I tried flashing that ICS rom with 4-ext and am stuck in a bootloop. Going to try restoring my backup now... I don't know if I did something wrong as this was my first attempt at flashing a rom. I might look through the settings again after I recover and try again. I'll let you know how it goes. I do have a question though: Do i need to uncheck the s-on option since I am s-off? They made it sound like you could leave it checked either way.

Not necessary to uncheck it, it could be because you need to be on the latest HBoot with the latest kernel, not sure, you can post in that thread and see what others say there. Keep us posted, I have still HBoot 1.4 with S-Off, so I flash Only ICS roms now, if you want an ICS Rom I can give you a few they are great.

The one I am currently on with the latest base, but no need to update the radio or HBoot, you should not get bootloops if you are S-OFF

{CDMA}[ROM]Imagik Homebrew Sprint 2.89.651.2 (deodexed)[Team IMAGIKA] V1.2 [8/13/2012]

Another one that is good and he will be coming with a new release soon with new base added is this one which I ran for a few months

I realized I didn't do the full wipe before flashing. Do you think that could be the problem? I would really like to stick with the stock roms for now but I will still look at the links you provided. I don't know much about updating radios and kernels and all of that. As far as I know I am coming from the latest everything. I'm on 2.17.651.5 stock rom. Not sure about the kernel.

Try doing a full wipe and also wipe the partitions excluding the SD card, and the 2 Rom I gave you pretty much stock, but no bloatware.

Wiped and also formatted the partitions. Still get the same boot loop. I am going to try doing this in fastboot. I read that some people with boot loop problems had success using fastboot for ICS. Can't hurt to try I suppose. Also thanks for all your help.

How long did you leave it booting, some say it takes over 10 minutes sometimes on initial boot. I really would try the Homebrew Rom I gave you, you have a Nandroid, so not worries, give it a shot.

You can also try the flashguide app, [APP Tool] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!

I've been at this too long. I think I need to give it a rest for the day. I just tried loading a 4EXT recovery.img in fast boot and when i typed "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" it just sat on white screen with htc logo. Will not go into recovery now... I about had a panic attack and realized I could still choose factory reset. I hit that and it is also sitting on white screen with htc logo. Not sure if it does that while it's resetting or if I messed up really bad. I can't tell if it's doing anything but with no recovery I can't restore my backup...

ETA.. After I typed "fastboot boot recovery.img" it would not go into recovery

Try pulling the battery out, then wait a few seconds, put battery in, then hold Volume down button and then the power button at the same time until your phone boots into recovery, if it goes into recovery restore your Nandroid.

That's the first thing I tried... When I go to recovery it just goes to a white screen with HTC Logo and sits there... Same with the factory reset... It isn't resetting... It's just sitting on that screen. I'm getting worried....

Then I pulled battery again and hit factory reset and it sits at the same screen doing nothing... I think I really messed it up somehow... I don't know if I can even install another recovery image..

Update:
I was able to re-flash my TWRP recovery and and boot into recovery. I am now restoring my original TWRP nand backup from when I rooted! What a day! All this and still no Ice Cream for me!!!

OK as mentioned in a PM I sent you, I created your own thread to have better flow and to make it easier to follow, lets take a step back here and look over where we are at, then we will make a decision on how to proceed from here when you are ready. I have asked Scotty to come and help us here, I am confident we will resolve this issue and come up with the proper game plan. It was a wise decision to take a break last night and wake up with a fresh perspective. ;)

Hey Don thank you. For some reason I didn't get your PM but that's ok I guess. I will be busy for the next hour or so and won't be on the forum or able to work on my phone. I just wanted to leave a reply and drop off some info beforehand.

I was doing a lot of research last night. I try to answer my own questions so that I don't have to waste anyone's time. I found a thread, that I don't have a link to now, that was about people having issues flashing any ICS rom and thought it had to do with the SU binaries not updating. Could there be something to this? I have that issue where they fail to update. Also 4ext had a message when I re-installed it that said some roms have trouble flashing due to SU binaries not being updated. Can't remember if it referenced ICS. This is why I started looking into forcing an update. (Also to be fair, I have only tried the one ICS rom. So I do not know if I have a problem with all... It will drive me crazy though until I get this one flashed)

I found the updated binaries on the SU website : Superuser
His instructions say "just download the update.zip from here, put it on your sdcard, reboot into recovery and install it." The problem is I don't know which device type to download the zip for. I spent a lot of time on google trying to find the answer and turned up nothing.

Basically this is where I am at now. I am trying to do as much of the work as possible to save you some time on troubleshooting. I don't know if the SU binaries will make a difference or not or if it is worth a shot...

I am on stock 2.17 rom and am back to using 4ext. I am H-boot 1.5 but I am s-off via the wire trick. Long post but hopefully gives you a good idea of where I am at. Anyway, I will be back in a bit to check reply and let you know when I can try any ideas you might come up with.

Weird that you didn't get that, and I just deleted it, I sent a copy to Scotty wonder if he got it, this way he can forward it to you, we will wait until you have time, just let us know.

Hey DonB. I have a little while to try some things if you have some ideas for me!

Gonna have a bite to eat. I'll check in in about a half hour. 12:30 - 3:30e

Sorry got busy here at work, will check in later to see if your around

That's no problem. I have been busy today as well. I'm back and ready to get going any time you are. I'll just keep my eye out for you..

OK, so you are back to your GB Nandroid Rom correct and on base 2.17

OK, I want you to try flashing the Homebrew Rom I gave you, want to see if you get bootloops with that one. I have asked Scotty to check in also, hopefully he will be around.

Ok. I need to download it. I will see if that one works. And even if it does work, it still bugs me to not know why this one won't work. I expected this to be easy haha. Then I couldn't even flash my first rom. What is the difference between this rom and the homebrew rom? Also out of curiosity, what are you running?

There were two versions posted. I am getting the newest one added. Be about 15 minutes for DL to finish...
