Root [CDMA] Lost MIN/PRL/MEID during flash

apara

Lurker
I was following the flashing guide to convert CDMA Boost Moto G onto Page Plus. It worked, but I could not get the 3G to stick. So after a few attempts to restart the process, erase user data, etc, I managed to loose MIN, PRL and MEID. When I go into the About Phone/Status they all say "Unknown".

The phone is working, but it says "No Service" and reboots after about 3 minutes of operation.

I have the original box, so it has MEID on it. I do not know PRL or MIN.

Anyone can help me get back to working phone. I have a demo version of DFS, the fastboot command is working. Using DFS however, I was unable to get "UNLOCKED" message as the SPC I set for Verizon (00000) does not appear to work. I have the old SPC, but that does not work either. I don't get "UNLOCKED".

Is there anyway to fix this mess?

Thanks.

I think it supose to be six zeros , when did you purchase your phone i got mines to day and moto site say my boot-loader isn't eligible to be unlocked and funny thing my phone is already activated and i havent even tried to brand new out the box

I purchased mine just a few days ago from Amazon. It did not come with a number and certainly was not activated. I got it from this link:

Amazon.com: Moto G - Boost Mobile Prepaid Phone (Boost): Cell Phones & Accessories

I did unlock the boot loader. Flashed with Verizon 4.4.2 firmware. However, before proceeding, I updated to 4.4.4. That was the only deviation. After everything but 3G worked. I was able to make calls and use SMS.

A month or so ago, I did the same thing for the phone my wife is using right now. That one was done *exactly* by the book, and worked out fine. This phone was going to be for me, however, I screwed it up.

I noticed that the phone started at 1X, then switched to 3G, only to suddenly loose connection and go back to re-connecting. I tried using DFS, so set the values on the Mobile IP page (255.255.255.255 for some fields and 300/2 for others), but those values never appeared to "stick".

Even after unlocking the phone by sending SPC 000000 and then doing a reset afterwards. So, I thought, that that one deviation (where I upgraded to 4.4.4 first) was the issue. I decided to flash back to 4.4.2 and repeat.

However, after the 4.4.2 flash I lost MEID and some other values. Now, the phone simply says No Service. It also seems to reboot after about 3 minutes of operation. However, during that time, I am able to access all applications, menus, settings, so everything appears to be working.

I am sure there are ways to restore MEID, but I am not an expert in this field and do not know how to do that. I am really not sure where to proceed from here. Hoping that some expert members can help me out.

Thanks.

I wrote the following below before i read your entire post lol does your phone work?

Ok I had this same problem and fixed it using this http://superior-automation.com/temp/MotoG.pdf
Okay i will tell you what I did exactly first i tried to unlock boot-loader with the stock Boost Mobile 4.4.2 didn't work,so then I went here [GUIDE] Moto G - Restore stock firmware | Moto G | XDA Forum . I downloaded Boost 4.3 from here FileFactory ,Then I unlocked the boot-loader ,changed spc/msl , then flashed to page plus using the 4.4.2 Flash files heres the link forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2633265&d=1394953835 I copied the regular Verizon 4.4.2 stock files ,where i got the boost 4.3 stock files into the 4.4.2 Flash files folder then activated my phone with page plus waited like 10 mins cut my phone on let OTA activate *remember to tap the "Press Here" on your phone screen to manually activate. Then its going to call Press 1 wait for it to say your phone is activated. Power cycled the phone then make a phone call to make sure I was activated, now Im activated but no data and I'm roaming so I google how to update prl and Verizon website said to call *228 and press 2 just like the activation wait for to hang up.Now I'm no longer roaming but still have no 3g data. I went into dfs >send spc>*device unlocked> then use the settings from the pdf (first link in this post) clicked on write then I hit reset...The settings stuck I can confirm EVERYTHING works perfect.... And I took 4.4.4 OTA after everything was already working .....Now I know that didnt answer your question I'm not an expert, but i think you should flash back to verizon 4.4.2 follow the steps i did from there sounds like you almost have it man , I think you forgot to add the the extra command pause after the command lines
%fastboot% flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
%fastboot% reboot-bootloader

the regular Verizon 4.4.2 ZIP doesn't have that pause in the command line when flashing its critical from what i read somewhere and i made sure i used the 4.4.2 Flash Files command instead verify that the bat file you used to install 4.4.2 looks like this

SET fastboot=fastboot.exe
%fastboot% flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
%fastboot% reboot-bootloader
pause
%fastboot% flash partition gpt.bin
%fastboot% flash motoboot motoboot.img
%fastboot% flash logo logo.bin
%fastboot% flash boot boot.img
%fastboot% flash recovery recovery.img
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk4
%fastboot% flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
%fastboot% erase modemst1
%fastboot% erase modemst2
%fastboot% flash fsg fsg.mbn
%fastboot% erase cache
%fastboot% erase userdata
pause

Yes. The phone works. The biggest issue is that it has lost its identity. It does not have meid, prl, or min set. It also reboots after 3 munutes. Wifi is turned off and it does not turn on. I do not know what todo to restore meid, prl, min. So I am stuck.

Since it is a Boost phone, try the procedure mentioned by donp445 with the Boost Stock ROM (downloadable from the same site). After, you can try to flash the Verizon Stock ROM that you did in the post from donp445. Do not update to 4.4.4 because there is not one for the Boost version as of yet. It is coming. Wait for the Boost version and then repeat the process when you are ready to upgrade (flash Boost's version of 4.4.4 and then flash Verizon's version of 4.4.4). Or, my recommendation would be to use a custom ROM, which seems to be compatible with all versions of the Moto G. You will also have 4.4.4 before it is officially released.

When you flash the Boost Stock ROM, go to settings --> System Update and just update the PRL
After flashing the Verizon ROM, do the procedure to update PRL (usually *228)

But how to I get the MEID back into the phone?

I do have another Moto G phone which is working fine (it's the one I did first for my wife). Is there a way to do a FULL backup on that phone and restore to this phone? That may restore the phone to working state, but I still need to update MEID.

Thanks.

When you flash the Boost Stock ROM said:
I think he said it , you might not want the long task of doing so but that's the only way I believe your going to get the stock meid n prl configurable again dude idk if the ##3282# codes work on Verizon software onto boost encoded hardware ##3282# is what you use in the phone failed to program 3g ,sid , min MMS URL and enter information from the box of your phone

Unfortunately, the MEID is hardcoded into the CDMA chip. The only way to reprogram, from what I have read, is to use the update methods provided by the stock rom or a hacked method that I have not found for the Moto G as of yet. Considering the price of the phone, I don't think you will have much luck finding any hacked method to reprogram the CDMA chip with the correct information. Those tools are usually only created by the community for the "flagship" devices.

If I hear of any other way, I will post it here. Otherwise, you may have yourself a brick.

... The only way to reprogram, from what I have read, is to use the update methods provided by the stock rom ...

I tried to flash back to the Stock rom.

I downloaded falcon_boost_user_4.4.2_KXB20.9-1.10-1.18_18_release-keys-cid9.xml and following the instructions executed:

SET fastboot=V:\phone_flash\minimalADBAndFastboot\fastboot.exe

%fastboot% flash partition gpt.bin
%fastboot% flash motoboot motoboot.img
%fastboot% flash logo logo.bin
%fastboot% flash boot boot.img
%fastboot% flash recovery recovery.img
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
%fastboot% flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
%fastboot% flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
%fastboot% erase modemst1
%fastboot% erase modemst2
%fastboot% flash fsg fsg.mbn
%fastboot% erase cache
%fastboot% erase userdata
%fastboot% reboot

The first two lfailed (as mentioned elsewhere could happen):

fastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'partition' (32 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.033s]
writing 'partition'...
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.380s

fastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'motoboot' (1940 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.102s]
writing 'motoboot'...
(bootloader) Motoboot: Preflash validation for tz
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.426s

But the rest went through OK.

Unfortunately, now the phone is stuck at a "Starting Services" prompt and after a while it reboots.

I can still get into FastBoot mode, however.

I have another Moto G that works fine. Is there a way to do a FULL backup of that phone and restore on to this one. At least I may be able to get into a working state.

I am not sure how I would manage to erase the MEID from the CDMA chip.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Thanks.

Without unlocking and rooting the working phone, it is not possible to do a ROM backup. I am not sure that would help in any case.

I did notice that SET fastboot=V:\phone_flash\minimalADBAndFastboot\fast boot.exe is not supposed to have any space. It is supposed to be SET fastboot=V:\phone_flash\minimalADBAndFastboot\fastboot.exe

The ROM that you would end up with would be identical to the one that you just tried to flash with fastboot.

The MEID is actually wiped from the chip. Unfortunately, no amount of flashing will bring that back. You would have to be able to find a tool that can write to the chip. Considering each phone has its own MEID, a ROM from another phone of the same model would not help if the Stock ROM did not do the trick for you.

Thanks for your help. It's a shame that one has to go through all these hoops just to get a phone working on Page Plus. One should be able to buy Moto G and just use it on Page Plus. Damn those greedy bastard phone companies.

The easiest way that I have found is to use a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod and edit the build.prop file in the zip file to point to the correct carrier.

There has to be someone that uses the Page Plus service that could help with that the next time you go to flash another phone.

I am sorry that there was no other help I could provide. Keep checking back, someone might actually find a different way to help.

unfortunately i tried to go back to boost from pageplus now this is happening to me
i do have a backup of my clockworkmod my meid is also missing im wondering if i can restore through recovery but phone doesnt stay on long enough to copy threw windows is there away to mount usb through cwm

I figured out what I did wrong with my initial flash. On the last part, when setting the IP Mobile configuration, after pressing "Read" and entering the values, I pressed "Write" (the button right next to "Read"). I should have pressed the larger, "Write Profile Data", but instead, I kept pressing the "Write".

Anyway, I since got a few more of these at Target and made one for each member of my family and my parents. The rest of of them went off without a hitch.

how did you fix ? my phone is doing the boot loop after 3 min like yours my meid is gone idk what to do now lol ?

So there is still no fix to this issue? I am still in a constant bootloop after trying to return to Boost 4.4.2 (falcon_boost_user_4.4.2_KXB20.9-1.10-1.18)

FYI - during the steps listed above, the following three came back as FAILED, the rest worked.
fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img

UGH...such a PITA!!!

I don't think or at least I didn't get my phone back until I down loaded n flash Verizon latest update , my meid was lost and everything I'm now showing no carrier as I tried to activate on boost thinking that had something to do with it not actually booting.
I want to try n see if I can write a boost/sprint prl while everything is working on the Verizon ROM then flash latest boost stock ROM.but I'm scared a Lil bit n I think it has something to do with the boot loader being updated to 4.4.4 n because when I first downgraded it gave an error so I would suggest using boost 4.4.4 but it hasn't been released.

if you need a tester for anything you are trying let me know. I am in the same boat and my phone is currently borked. Hoping 4.4.4 might be the solution soon.

ok let me know if it worked for you ! at this point i decided i'll stick with page plus but im going to start looking into building roms for this phone

AS you guys are on unlock bootloader but flashed 4.4.4 verizon on boost,
4.4.4 partiation table are different than 4.4.2
so you cannot go back to 4.4.2 from boost
but as boost released 4.4.4 just day back, you can take a stock rooted zip from this forum by superR and flash it in custom recovery
you will be on boost 4.4.4 stock
and your meid and other things should come back.

This is exactly what I was going to say. You can't downgrade from the 4.4.4 bootloader to the 4.4.2 bootloader. Unfortunately, nobody has released the stock rom for Boost 4.4.4 yet.
