Root [CDMA] Offical bootloader unlock time line.

**UPDATE 7/10**

We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience.

We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments.

HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Seems like 2 months is quite a while for something as simple as changing the hboot, especially if they've already been working on it for a while, which from that Tweet it sounds like they have been.

A wholesale OTA to the bootloader along with whatever other encryption changes - I don't know what the right amount of time would be, but so long as they don't brick my phone and give me a clean path, I'm content to wait.

We're third in line - oh well.

Hopefully this hasnt been posted just yet.

I'm in no hurry to root. There is nothing the E3D can't handle right now, and since I enjoy the new Sense I'm not dying to get a different ROM on it. Two months still seems like a long time though (plus whatever they've been working on since May when they said they'd unlock it).

I would like updated drivers so I can play Unity3D games though...Everyone is playing the blame game...Developers say it's Unity's fault, Unity says it's HTC and HTC says because it is a new device it's the developer's fault for not knowing how to use the new hardware...

Good news, indeed. I just found out on via my Twitter account. :)

I, for one, can not wait for the Sprint HTC EVO 3D ROM scene to open up, even though I am sure I will be happy with HTC Sense 3.0 to start out. I am a flashaholic. :D

That's a promised month after when I can return the 3D without penalty (mid-next week), and, no guarantee that the unlocked bootloader doesn't come with some unfavorable baggage such as permanent marking to prevent warranty returns or insurance claims (even for completely unrelated problems such as physical hardware failures.)

Right now I'm probably still going to return the 3D, go back to loving on my 4G and wait until the picture of what will actually happen when the bootloader is finally unlocked is known and clear.

Besides, my 3D has the pin-prick light leak between back and search, so I wanted to replace it anyway.

I am so glad they came out and gave some sort of timeline. Quite frankly I am sick and tired of so many people complaining about whether or not they should return their phones. For those on the fence it should be a lot easier to make your decision now. As for me, I will continue to enjoy the 3vo and all of its awesome features and when it gets unlocked I will root and flash whatever rom I can.

I know right? My E3D is cookin'! (Literally! It was 121.7 degrees in my pocket during lunch today! OW!!!)

Aside from being able to etch wood with the heat the metallic bezel generates mid-day, I love the phone. I've decided on selling my 'old' 4g to someone where at my new command. Not sure the price.... maybe $210? I've got 4 cases and an extra battery I got awhile back from hong kong. The phone's got no issues, aside from the first batch problems. (The 'B' spot, etc.) Anyway, that's off topic at this point.

But really. This phone is definitely worth keeping, twice over.

I would say that price is fair maybe even a few dollars higher if its rooted. But yeah I am so loving my 3vo, I held up on my purchase of a samsung tab because quite frankly with the higher resolution on the 3vo compared to the evo 4g it shows more on the screen and I don't have to zoom in as much anymore. Anyway to get back on topic, I hope the bootloader is unlocked soon but I am definitely in no rush at all. This phone is very capable and quite frankly anything that comes out with in the next 6 months or so will definitely not be leaps and bounds ahead of this phone at least not in real world use.
