Root [CDMA] Phone keeps powering off

Ok I'm having this issue ever since I switched to an ics ROM and it does it no matter which ROM I use. I am currently running zr3d 2.1 ics and my phone send to always power off randomly. I don't know when it is shutting off i don't know it has done it until I go to use it and I push the unlock button and it proceeds to power back on. I have the latest firmware and I am h-boot 1.40 with s-off. Any thoughts on this issue?

Go back to a Gingerbread ROM until the official Sprint ICS update is released. It'll likely contain the firmware to make ICS stable on the Evo 3D.

Ok so I have tried different ICS roms and finally switched back to a GB rom and I am still getting the random reboots and complete power offs. I have noticed it does not do it at all if plugged into a power source so I thought somehow maybe the battery is staying solidly in contact with the leads so I wedge a small piece of paper in there to make it hold tight. Still the same problem. The battery holds a charge so I don't think its faulty, however no second battery to test with. Anyh thoughts on why this would be happening or has anyone else had this issue?

It may be your battery, but I doubt it. You can rule it out without replacing it, though. Get an app/widget that reports the battery voltage, like battery monitor widget, and look at the logs just before the reboot to see what the battery voltage was when it took a dive. If IIRC, 3.7v is close to the low end where it shuts off, maybe 3.6v. If your battery is 3.9 or higher when it reboots, it's not your battery.

Also, the phone won't stay on if you unplug the battery, even when connected to the charger. The phone is always running off the battery, it's just that the charger charges the battery faster than the cell phone depletes it. This is how Uninterruptable power supplies (UPS - not the parcel service) work. Otherwise the phone would shut off every time you connected and disconnected the charging cable.

I would suggest you flash a RUU. If you're 1.3 or 1.4, flash the 1.13.651.7 RUU. If you're on HBOOT 1.5, flash the 2.17.651.5 RUU. Links are in the All Things Root sticky. I'd recommend the goo.im mirror, it's much faster than file factory.

I have the same issue. I think battery is not your problem, I've changed my battery, phone still shutting down sometimes.

And yes you are correct that it doesn't turn off when it plugged in into power source.
In my case, I think it's related to signal issue, because it only happens when I really have a bad reception. It might be hardware related.

Mine doesn't happen very often now, just once in a while. So I just deal with it.

I have a Virgin Mobile branded Evo 3d (No sprint logo on the top bezel) with hboot 1.57. After rooting my phone a few days ago I was constantly being hit by an error "Radio Interface Resource Shortage" error code: 64 class: 2. I couldn't make calls, send or receive SMS or MMS messages. I ended up updating the PRL through my phone's settings which seemed to have fixed that problem.

Yesterday I started playing with roms and flashed MeanROM and played around with it for a few hours but didn't really care for it so I went with Dark Sense v1.0 which has been really fast with impressive ram consumption (I have about 600mb free after running Gemini Task Killer Widget).

The only problem is that my phone randomly powers off now.

I'm taking Jerofld's advice and am in the process of finding a lightweight GB rom to tide me over until Sprint releases an updated firmware for ICS stability. I'm just hoping that it's a ROM related issue and not a signal or even worse...hardware related issue which would continue to plague me even on a GB rom.

Can anyone recommend any solid GB roms to look into for the mean time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is what I had installed on my Evo 3D before I deactivated it:

[ROM][D3rp] Evergreen CM7 [4/21/2012] [Kang] - xda-developers

The pros: It's a stable system and most things work. Including bluetooth A2DP.

The cons: It reception and battery are not as good as Sense ROMs. 3D and WiMAX do not work.

I've never had a system crash with it. As a temporary solution until Sprint upgrades the phone, it'll work. If you must have WiMAX, I'd recommend just getting the rooted stock ROM.

Ok I got it fixed. I eneded up flashing that Freezas fix or whatever it is called and voila problem solved. Haven't had a single shut down in days.
