Root [CDMA] Previous Rooted-Long Over Due Second Attempt

InOneEar

Lurker
It's been several months since I initially rooted my EVO. I did the dumb move and updated the firmware and I lost the root. Here are the specs of my device:

Android Version 2.3.4
HTC Sense version 3.0
Software Number 2.08.651.2
Baseband 0.97.10.0808
PRI Version 1.31_003
PRL Version 21087
Kernel Version 2.6.35.13-g84f8edd
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 5 01:14:20 CST 2011

I honestly do not recall how I rooted the device previously. However, I do know that I tried in vain to root the device after the firmware update. I tried to unlock (I believe that is the correct term) the device using the HTC Developers website but I always get stuck on the last step.

I believe the last time I tried to unlock/root my device was back in January. Since it is basically June, I was hoping there have been some updates. I am not tech-savvy and the newbie guide seems a bit intense. Is that guide my only option or can someone walk me through, in layman's terms, what I can do to permanently unlock/root my device?

Thanks for this. Before I begin, is there a recommended back up option? I see Titanium Backup is popular but it requires a rooted device.

There is a temporary root option for that. I haven't tried it, so I don't know how to do it, but if you're interested, here it is: [temp-root] hboot 1.50 2.** - xda-developers

Some programs have backup features, like text messages. Also apps like ES File Explorer can back up apps.

Thank you very much. I just got back to this thread today and, after carefully reviewing the instructions within both links, I now have an unlocked and rooted phone. Thanks again.

Great to hear, if you need anything else let us know, time to get flashing ;)
