Root [CDMA] Something's wrong with my recovery??

Hi all -

A few months ago I got my Evo 3d and upgraded the ROM, Kernel, and Recovery after playing around with it for awhile. I'm guessing that something went wrong when I installed the recovery because the phone will not shutdown and reboot into recovery properly. I'm running the Sick Sense X ROM and use the TWRP recovery. When I press and hold the power button to try and reboot into Recovery or the Boot loader, the device appears to lock up and I have to do a battery pull. When it boots up again, it does go into recovery but I'd prefer to avoid the battery pull for obvious reasons.

Suggestions on what might've gone wrong and how I fix it? I got fairly accomplished at replacing Recovery/ROM/Kernel on my Fascinate, but base level stuff like this is still a bit beyond my understanding.

I would try re-flashing the recovery. What version of TWRP are you using? TWRP 1.1.1 is the best, IMO, but TWRP 2 is also pretty good. If you're having trouble with the SD card method, I'd recommend you try doing it through fastboot. If you need a guide on how to do it through fastboot, I just so happen to have a guide:

Just skip the inapplicable parts, like step 4.

Very nicely written instructions, Jerofld...the key (like with most things with me), is reading them correctly! I learned this after trying to get ADB to work BEFORE installing HTCSync....odd how it won't talk to the computer without USB drivers!

The backup after re-flashing the recovery is running now. Sure enough, your instructions did the trick. The only question left is whether re-enabling 'Fast boot' will break it?

You can re-enable 'Fast Boot'. Personally, I find it to be a pain and disable it. If you have any problems with apps that should reboot the phone not rebooting the phone properly, though, it's because of that feature. Sometimes it can interfere with ADB reboot commands, too.
