Root [CDMA] Text Messaging not working

:( It's still rebooting and shutting itself down occasionally, though not nearly as often... yet.

Should I un-root/re-root?

No, doing that won't solve anything, I would do exactly what I mentioned, I would do a full wife from recovery, then re flash that Rom, if you still have an issue after that, then we will take it from there, also make sure you do not install any new apps, until you test the ROM fully, to make sure it is not app related.

I finally got the phone wiped and re-flashed with the new ZR3D-GT Rom today at about 2:00. So far I haven't had a single reboot or shutdown, though I haven't been using the phone at all... just been too busy at work. I'm crossing my fingers.

Well that's strange... My phone had sat on my desk doing nothing for nearly 4 hours. I decided to add the Google Calendar app to one of my homepages. As soon as I did all of the apps I used to have installed started downloading and installing, one at a time. I'm not even sure how to make them stop. I never told my phone to automatically sync when I was going through the initial start up.

Well, I re-wiped and re-flashed the Rom and didn't input my Google account at all this time. A half hour later I pulled it out of my pocket and it was shut down. My battery was at 67% charge. Any other ideas?

Google Apps download as soon as you sign into to your Google account at set up unless you don't allow it. Battery goes down fast when flashing, charge and see why happens

I just pulled a fresh battery off of the charger, put it in the phone, re-wiped and re-flashed. 10 minutes later... reboot.

:(

I am going to recommend to you to post in Drop's thread over at XDA, I have tried everything I could think of, the only thing I could think of is trying a different Kernel, post here and see if the DEV has a solution for you, give as much detail in the thread so others that see it can follow, We don't usually do this but maybe having a different set or eyes sometimes helps, [ROM] ZR3D 3.0GT (5-03) [Team420SB] BEATS, FAST, ALL NEW! (OTA-2.17.651.5)

Still rebooting or shutting down often. Is there any hope for this phone at this point?

I've been sticking out of this thread as I figured I'd stay out of it while Don was working with you. Here's my suggestion:

Flash the RUU: Goo.im Downloads - Downloading RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_1.13.651.7_Radio_0.97.10.0530_NV_NV_SPCS_1.16_release_198109_signed.exe

That is for HBOOT 1.4. If you're on the engineering bootloader (it says HBOOT 1.40.0000 ENG instead of SHIP), then you should go back to the Ship bootloader before flashing a RUU. I didn't do it and it didn't brick my phone, but I guess it can happen. /shrug

After you flash the RUU, you should flash this standalone HBOOT 1.4 build: https://www.box.com/s/8875f2cdef8376d9faab - otherwise fastboot will be all wonky.

Then see if you're stable. If so, flash the new firmware. Verify you're stable, for at least a day. Flash new stock ROM and again see if you're stable. Then try a custom ROM if you're good at that point.

Your help is always welcome anything bro.

Thanks. I just saw this, but will give it a try tonight.

I have discovered a few things since my last post. First is that incoming calls seem to be the trigger for rebooting, at least some of the time. My phone won't ring, but will suddenly reboot. I seemingly-not-coincidentally have a new voicemail waiting for me after the reboot. More often than not my phone will neither ring nor reboot; I just simply get a notification that I have a new voicemail. Also, I quite often am getting a "1X" where I would usually see "3G", and of course my data is terribly slow.

These seem to point to radio issues, do they not?

I have to wonder if I selected the wrong radio when I downloaded from here:

[RADIO] HTC Evo 3D (CDMA) Radios [PG86IMG.zip] (Updated: 18 Jan 2012) - xda-developers

If I recall correctly I downloaded and flashed the second to last download first, since it included WiMax, then I downloaded and flashed the last download linked in the first post.

Those are the correct firmware files. Try the RUU next. A lot of things can be fixed by going back to bone stock.

I changed the file name to PG86IMG.zip and opened the bootloader. Is that not the proper way to flash an RUU? Everything looks the same, including the CWM Recovery.

No, you need to run the RUU.exe to flash it. You might have to start in bootloader mode for it to work. This is an alternative way (how to get the rom.zip file out of the rom.exe file):

Alternative method to flashing a RUU

If RUU.exe does not work for you, you can manually extract the RUU.zip from the RUU.exe.

1) Go to Start > Run > type "%temp%" and push enter, this is your temp directory. I recommend you clear out as much as you can.

2) Run RUU.exe with this folder open. You'll see a few new directories, in one of them, there is a file called rom.zip. Copy that file to your SD card and rename it to "PG86IMG.zip".

3) Reboot your phone into bootloader mode. This file should flash.

Thanks to EddyOS for his post here: RUU as .zip ... possible?

No, you need to run the RUU.exe to flash it.
Do I do that in Recovery the same way I would flash a zip? I think the menu option is called 'Select Zip to Flash', or something like that, but I don't think it prevents you from selecting another file type.

I've never ran an exe from a phone before.

I'm an idiot... the exe DOES run on the PC and not the phone. Duh!

The phone is now back to original form. We'll see if she's stable.

Now before you do anything make a fresh Nandroid of this Stock Rom, then you can start flashing, Try the gt Rom again,as I am on that Rom and I have no issues, so that should be a good indication. :call:

I seem to have lost root, though I still have S-Off. When I go into Recovery and choose "Apply update from sdcard" and choose the Superuser-2.0.7-efgh-signed.zip file, I get the following error:

--Install /sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Yeah, you're unrooted. I forgot to mention that about the RUU. It's no big deal, you just need to reflash HBOOT, recovery, radios/firmware, and rooted ROM.

https://www.box.com/s/8875f2cdef8376d9faab - SHIP Hboot 1.4 - flash this first via the bootloader.

Then you can get the rest in my root guide: http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...ms-kernels-using-fastboot-updated-4-29-a.html

You can even follow that, step for step. Except for step 4, as it's unnecessary as you're already unlocked.

Correct me if Im wrong - But if he is S-off he still should be able to flash Super-user in recovery - one advantage of s-off....

Maybe toggle off Signature verification?

Flashing a RUU did weird things to my phone until I flashed the HBOOT over again. I couldn't flash a recovery without doing the ZIP method, for example. It's why I suggested it.
