Root [CDMA] Trouble flashing roms

Ok for some reason have been having trouble flashing roms recently. Some flash fine others though come up with: error in /sdcard/(filename).zip ---- installation aborted. This has happened trying to flash viperrom ICS, newtone, and now zr3dx 2.0. Not sure what I am doing wrong here but it's getting old fast.
 
no i'm on an older hboot with s-off. that's why it doesn't make sense. i have never had an issue flashing roms until now.
 
Are you on an older Base firmware, did you upgrade ?? that could be your issue, 2.17.651.5, and then when you flash ICS it will be 1.13.652.1 I believe, also make sure you do a full wipe ?, what recovery are you using ? are you flashing different Kernels ?

yeah that is the one i have been trying to go with. i'm using clockwork, i know it says 4ext is recommended but i like the clockwork touch and i don't want to pay for a new recovery.
 
It took me forever to switch to 4EXT and I finally did and I am glad I did, all your CWM backups are good with 4EXT, so no worries, it is easy to use, backups are stored in the same CWM recovery backup folder, and you do not have to pay, you can use the free version if you want, I would switch to that and then see how things work out, I will post the download link below, along with the XDA link to the thread to read up on it at the same time, once you do that if you still have issues come back and we will figure it out, you could also use [APP Tool] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode! to flash your Rom, but I would start with 4EXT recovery first

This is an error with Clockwork. I have the same problem with my Acer A500 tablet that has Clockwork. It has something to do with Clockwork misreading the phone's hardware information and thinking the file you're trying to flash is for a different device.

So either you need to update CWM, or replace it. I also highly recommend 4EXTRecovery, it is simply awesome.
 
hey thanks for the help, i switche to 4ext and that took care of the issue i was having. one last thing, this zr3dx 2.o is and ics build but not based off virgins so you can switch back to gb if you want. what i was wondering is if you know whether viperrom ic3d is the type you can't switch back from. any thoughts?
 
You can switch back to GB from any of the ICS ROMs. If you take the VM firmware, you can't go back to Sprint firmware without some of the workarounds and it's suggested you stay away from that.

But you can go back and forth as you please with ICS and GB.
