Root [CDMA] Unable to make calls no internet HELP!

2strokenut

Well-Known Member
I'm in the process of rooting my buddies 3D and I'm starting to sweat because nothing works on it now. No calls, no internet.

I achieved S-off but it failed to reboot and went straight back into the normal home screen, like normal. I read about the MSL number and getting the phone working normal but after downloading MSL reader off a wifi network it says "error, are you sure youre rooted?"

I'm pretty much stuck now. I don't know where to get the MSL number and don't know if I should try Revolutionary again and see what happens. Another option would be to try to get S-on maybe?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks

edit: Calling sends me to a recording that says I am not authorized to make calls, no forward to a CSR.

Text gives me cause code:64 Class:2

stay on the line with the Sprint csr and give them your details and they will turn you back on. dont worry about it, this happens to almost everyone after rooting when sense force closes during the handsfree activation or when it reboots during startup

dont worry, be happy. you can ask them for your msl code while on the line. don't know why it's saying you may not be rooted, maybe reboot phone and try it. are you sure you gave it root permission?

So, on the bootloader, does it say Revolutionary and S-OFF or no Revolutionary banner and S-ON?

Edit: If it says S-OFF and the Revolutionary banner is there, relax, you just need to manually flash a custom recovery and a new ROM. Follow the sticky at the top of this thread and install one of the two recoveries. Reboot to homescreen then reboot into custom recovery. Make a NANDroid backup (even of the broken ROM). Then wipe Dalvik and cache (which is probably the problem anyways). But, for good measure, install a custom ROM. I'd pick something basic off the list off of XDA. SteelRom is also pretty good because it's stock + some functionality. Then after you flash a ROM, reboot.

If you're still S-ON, try Revolutionary again. But, this time, take your time and read every step very closely. But first, relax. Do not do anything hasty. If you don't relax, you're likely to make another mistake.

It sounds like revolution.io was run - but no installation of the su zip.

Flashing a new rom is completely optional, not required - but as Jer points out, most people enjoy that.

I'm having the same problem. I have s-off but no root access. How do I get root now? When i I go into hboot it don't give me the option to flash the file on my SD card.

You need to install a recovery. If you didn't get it to install, rerun revolutionary.io and you'll get Clockwork Mod.

Optional - Follow the sticky post near the top of this forum to get info on how to install the TWRP recovery (a bit more features, but essentially the same sort of thing).

In H-BOOT, volume buttons move up/down in menu, tap power button to select.

When recovery is installed, choose that in your H-BOOT menu, then choose to install zip file (don't choose update.zip).

Navigate to the su zip file you downloaded for this, select it, follow on-screen prompts.

S-OFF + recovery installed + su zip file flashed = rooted Evo 3D

Hope this helps!

Just a quick correction: You don't need to run revolutionary.io a second time for Clockwork. Novox's thread on custom recoveries includes a link to download clockwork instead. Also, Clockwork is available through ROM Manager on the market.

That's true - but re-running revolutionary.io is just as easy - and the new rev senses that S-OFF has already happened and it just goes on to the recovery install.

So - any of those methods work.

I'm guessing that for new rooters, just running the tool again might be easiest, but that's just a guess.

I'll defer to the community on ease of use. :)

However - if you do go with Clockwork Mod for recovery - check that you are running 4.0.1.5 and if not, snag Rom Manager to update yours or follow the sticky thread.

Ah, I figured Revolutionary.io would just shut down if it detected S-OFF, or would try to do the exploit again and fail out. But with the success rate of CWM being installed...I rather do the manual way anyways :P

Although, I was one of the lucky lotto winners when I flashed Revolutionary.io.

How did u get soff? If you used htcs unlock, it's not working 100% if used used revolutionary there is a sticky with all you need.
i used revolutionary i have cwmv4.0.1.4 i boot to hboot but there is no zip file on my sd card to flash.

can someone post a link to the file that provides root after you get s-off?

First rule of rooting - Read.

Here's the link from the front page of revolutionary.io - the one that said read me in big letters -

public:revolutionary [RootWiki]

Inside that is the link to the su zip you need.

I'm sorry if it sounds like I am being short with you - I'm really not.

One day this rule will save you a bricked phone.

Rule One of Rooting - Read what they tell you.

I read three or four times before acting. ;)

I'm new to this so I hope I'm not giving wrong information...but it sounds like you need to get the Superuser .zip Once you have it on the SD card you install it through your recovery.

Edit: zomg EarlyMon said I was correct...I'm becoming a pro on day 1 of this stuff! (Lol, kidding of course...but at least I feel like im beginning to understand things as a whole rather than it just being some list of steps and thats progress for me)

You could flash any ROM after S-OFF + custom recovery is installed. Doesn't have to be that one. FYI.

However, I think that CWM is an old version. Make sure to update it once you get a rooted ROM installed.

And please follow the sticky thread on recovery to get to 4.0.1.5.

Maybe the slang is unclear - a sticky is a thread that we stick to the top of the forum thread list, so it won't get lost in the clutter.

Hope this helps!

Personally, I would update the recovery before flashing any roms.

And the first thing to do is make a nandroid backup with that recovery.

Welcome to rooting!

These threads may prove helpful to you -

To flash your synergy rom, place the zip file on your SD card, and then go Settings, Power and ensure that fastboot is not checked.

Power down your phone, then power up while holding the volume down button - that boots you into the bootloader and you go to recovery from there.

The volume buttons take you up or down in the menus, tap on the power button to make selections.

The steps vary slightly depending on whether you are using Clockwork Mod or TWRP, but all you need to do from there is to select your rom zip file and flash it.

Hope this helps! :)

These forums are awesome! Thanks guys sorry I've been busy with school starting and after getting the phone set back up through Sprint Customer service the next morning the phone is fine again, although my buddy is a little hesitant to give it back to me in order to install the SU apk haha. Oh well. Someone should put in the Root sticky that you should not press "cancel" when it says starting hands free activation!

On another note, I just bought my girlfriend the 3D and it will probably be mine in a few months but I gotta say I'm not THAT impressed with it. Battery life is terrible and it seems most people I know say the same thing (kind of like the OG Evo haha). I have my Evo 4G set up so good it almost doesn't entice me to switch. My other choice, the Photon, is not my next phone. The screen is laughable, it looks like my Hero screen as far as clarity. So the 3D will have to do here in a few months. I don't know if the 3D is just not that impressive or the Evo is just a super badass phone.

I'll probably start another thread about that though don't wanna get too off topic this thread has so much good info.

Thanks again guys
