Root [CDMA] Unlocked, but problems with rooting

Hi,

I've unlocked my phone by using HTC's method. And then I am trying to root by using this guide

[GUIDE] HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 + TWRP Recovery + Root + Flash Ur Ass Off! [9.11.11] - xda-developers

I am having trouble with the command line. I put the recovery.img into tools. After tying adb push recovery.img /sdcard/, it shows that adb is not recognized as an internal or external command. I did choose the folder tools to type this command.

I don't know a lot about android but I can follow orders. Please help me root it so unlocking this phone won't be in vain. Thanks

At first, I used the zip file. But it didn't work so I used installed one but still not working.

Take everything in the tools folder, copy and paste into the platform-tools folder. Adb is in platform-tools. And then you cd to android/platform-tools and it WILL work, I promisr

Hey thanks. It worked but the message for adb push recovery.img /sdcard/ now is failed to copy 'recovery.img' to '/sdcard//recovery.img': Permission denied.

Thanks again for your time and effort.

If you go into disk mode you don't have to push it, you can just put it in the root of your sdcard card. Also make sure usb debugging is checked

So I copied both files to my sd card. Then adb reboot bootloader and my phone went into Hboot. When I type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, it says 'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

Since I am so close to fully rooted, could someone help me with the problems I encountered? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

At the last step, installing su.zip, there's an error. E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

so, u now have recovery installed?

make sure you use this su
su 2.3.6.3

Thanks for your consistent help. But yeah that's the version I had. I replace my old su with yours but it's still the same.

Superuser 2.3.6.3 for Android 2.0-3.1

Mounting SYSTEM...
Deleting SYSTEM:bin/su...
Deleting SYSTEM:xbin/su...
Extracting files to SYSTEM...
Setting SYSTEM:bin/su permissions to 6755
Creating SYSTEM:xbin/su symbolic link...
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 0)

did you flash the recovery in that guide? you need toe modified twrp for htc unlock. also you may not be able to flash su over your stock rom, so i suggest that you make a nandroid back up that you can revert to, and flash a rom, close to stock as you can so you dont have any problems. and post your results. also clean rom would be a nice rom to start

Yes, I did flash the recovery by typing fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. Do I really have to flash a rom in order to root it? I like sense 3.0 and its stability. The only reason I am rooting is to use wifi tether.

The rom included in the instructions is just stock with the superuser/root access built in. Plus, many of the ROMs available use sense. If you go to XDA, look at the ROMs available. Most of them are Sense 3.0 based, except for ones that are labeled "AOSP" or "Sense-less".

check the checksum on the su, the error seems to be around with bad zip files

Hi,

I just resolved my problem by using the file (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned)from this website. Hope this will be helpful for other people. And thanks a lot for the support from wake69
