Root [CDMA] what did i do wrong ?

Hi all, I recently upgraded from the og EVO. I had that rooted and was working fine when flashed different kernels , roms etc. U

I bought the 3d from radio shack and when i came home went straight to rooting. I used revolutionary and after several attempts and it saying " communication with phone was interrupred" I tried one last time. Revolutionary said s- off has already been achieved. I never even got to the part were it asks you to download clockwork.

I figured I would try some things out. Flashed super user. Went fine.
Set cpu. Again fine.
Flashed a kernel (silverneedle). Problems. No matter what kernel I use the WiFi won't work... I had to flash back to stock kernel. I tried all the kernels on xd developers site under the all kernels thread. Not even the stock version 2 with overlooking worked.

Next problem.
Flashing mods.
Wanted the circle battery percentage mod for the status bar. Flash it and every time it caused the phone to bug out. Like black screen and constantly saying Usb storage disabled.

So I flashed my recovery. And I'm now back on stock kernel no mods only undreclocked ..

Do I need to flash a custom ROM. ? Yes I wiped dalvic and cache before flashing anything

Is there something I'm doing wrong ?
 
as stated in the post above, the 1.5 hboot unlocked will not let you write to the /boot section id your phone, so flashing roms with custom kernels, custom kernels, boot animations etc wont work. however, there is a work around. if you boot into hboot, connect phone to computer and boot into recovery through fastboot using: fastboot boot recovery recovery.img you will trick your phone and it will writeto the /boot
 
I have 1.4 I can flash fine but nothing works. All the kernels have glitches or something. Like when i flash silverneedle for Instance it goes to infinite boot loop. The stock version 2 upgraded kernel WiFi says error and random shut offs. Same withabout three other kernels I've tried. Do I need to have a custom ROM to flash a kernel. In just looking for powersave, use of set CPU and WiFi tether.
 
The root cause of your problem is that you flashed Netarchy's kernel, which is on the wrong base version. You'll need to flash a full ROM again (which includes kernel and OS), or restore from a NANDroid. This happened to me too.
 
What is a good running sense 3.0 Rom. I like this totally stock setup. One of the reasons I rooted my last EVO was because I wanted to have sense 3.0. I was on mik3d beta. I want to retain the stick functionality. But want hotspot, hdmi mirroring and set CPU ?
 
muns 3.2 is my fave, they use a crappy upload site, but the svn version dl inabout 10mins. myns with tiamount for sense is a beast, i am on 3 days without charge and have about 30% left. friday was a busy work day,somot a whole lot of use, but use wasthere, and yesterday at a wedding checking scorecenter quite frequently and today is sunday so not a lot iof use, but this rom sleeps well so even tho i am not using it a lot it has done a lot better than other roms
 
I did a Google search for muns 3.2 ? Do u have a link ?

Also thank you everyone for your replies. I did a full restore and am.back to stock only with soff.
 
I used SteelRom for a bit, it's pretty close to stock. But it will wipe your data if you flash it, as it has EXT-4 optimizations.

Problem resolved!!!

I had to switch to team win recovery, clockwork was not flashing thing right ... since the change everything is smooth.. I remember having problems with clockwork on the OG EVO.

I did a factory restore, nandroid backup, and flashed the warm 2.3 and i absolutely love it !! its exactly what i wanted. Stock with the tether and the ability to do a little customization.
