Root [CDMA] Why does su deny permissions?

I followed the steps in the noob guide to root and I am able to get into recovery and stuff but why when I downloaded terminal emulator and I type in su, it denies permissions?:/

When I try to install ROMs, it doesn't install. It just says it's been added so obviously it's not rooted. Help?:/
 
When you check your app drawer, SU app is not there ?? If you able to flash Roms, then you are rooted, if it is not in your app drawer try downloading it from the Play Store, report back ;) What recovery are you using??

Well when I install the su zip via recovery, it just says su zip has been added to sd card, not installed. But I found the reason why I'm not rooted. I realized I did the whole video without installing drivers and I got the bootloader unlocked and I tried flashing the su zip and it didn't because I realized that it wasn't rooted so I assume that it's because I didn't install the drivers but when I tried to install it, it just gave me the hour glass for like five seconds and then nothing. How do I install it?:/ And if you do help me resolve this issue, what part do I start on to root the 3D after the drivers been installed? Or is it even safe to attempt root due to unlocking bootloader and continuing on without hboot drivers?
 
So you're:

1) Unlocked
2) have a custom recovery installed (It should be TWRP if you followed my newbie's guide)
3) and have the su patch zip file on your SD card

If 1, 2, or 3 are not correct, please let us know. I'm also guessing you have a GSM phone.

If 1, 2 and 3 are correct, then you need to do the following:

1) Wipe the device (if you haven't already for the backup)

A) Wipe Cache partition
B) Wipe Dalvik Cache (Found in Advanced)
C) Wipe Data/Factory Reset

2) Install the ROM (or SU Patch)

A) Install zip from sd card
B) choose zip from sd card
C) Find the zip file and push power
D) Wait for the flash to finish.
E) Go back to the main menu
F) Reboot System now

My bootloader is unlocked.
I followed this video How to Root the HTC EVO 3D [Video Walkthrough] | The Droid Demos because my bootloader is 1.40.0000 It tells me to install drivers but I can't cause when I click on it, the hourglass comes out and then nothing. :/ and when I try to install from zip, it just says that it added it, it didn't flash it :/
