Root [CDMA] With new Update & HTC unlocked bootloader...

Hello all,

I've always been wanting to change or customize my lock screen/power button sound. In the past it appeared as though one had to be rooted to do this. With the new OTA update to 2.3.4 and the release of HTC unlocked bootloader could one now do this?

No you still need to be rooted, but there are lock screen apps out there in the market

You need to apply the HTC bootloader unlock as a first step. Or, if your current bootloader version is 1.4 or 1.3, you can use the Revolutionary method (traditional, homebrew way to root).

Once your bootloader is unlocked via either method, you flash a custom recovery and flash superuser to your existing ROM. Now you are fully rooted.

Once rooted, you have the ability to modify the contents of the /system folder. In there are the sound files for your lock screen and other UI sound components. Replace them with whatever you like. I believe they are all in mp3 format.

Sounds like your first step is to get the phone rooted... It's still a prerequisite to modify /system contents.

I wonder what the possibility is that the next version of android will allow us to change the lockscreen sounds without having to be rooted? This seems like something so simple, considering all the other sound changes that can currently be applied.
