Change CONTACT icon at the bottom?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered - but the PHONE and CONTACT buttons at the bottom ... can you change them to other uses? I never click CONTACTS so it's completely wasted space.

get launcher pro and make this phone your own! :)
 
I had tried launcher programs with my Droid and just found them to be yet another always-running program that used up memory and battery... Plus you lose the resizing widgets which I find very cool.

i agree that u lose the resizing widgets. and i would agree on the battery and memory thing...if we werent talking about the X :)
