Help change GSM auto prl to CDMA auto

IF you followed the directions COMPLETELY you would discover that just because it says 'CDMA' (Which, all of them, including mine say, at the beginning) does not mean it IS 'CDMA' pressing the menu button and choosing 'select radio band' will reveal its set to 'GSM'

So, next time...FOLLOW ALL OF THE FRUIT LOOPIN' DIRECTIONS!!!!!

Lmao...doh. I missed that little 'press menu' step the first time. Don't know what made me look at this again but glad I did. Already getting good battery life after other tweaks. Fourteen hours of heavy usage yesterday, wow now maybe it will get even better!

Edit- Ok, so I do this then when I exit and go right back to it it says GSM again. I don't see anywhere to save settings. Why isn't it sticking?
 
or you can prl update in the phone update menu... it will update it by itself and change it to cdma auto on its own... guess htc made a mistake so thEy corrected it in the prl update
 
Does anyone notice that even after switching it to CDMA Auto, or even CDMA only... if you look up on the same page it says GSM Service: In Service. But then below that is says Network Type: CDMA - EvDo rev. A

Does that mean despite switching it to only CDMA, it is still using GSM? Otherwise it wouldn't say in service, right?
 
The Evo doesn't have a GSM radio, does it? How much power is being wasted?

I agree with the previous poster's idea that perhaps it is the FORCE CLOSE in the radio changing instructions that cause it to move to GSM as a suggested default.

Can someone make sure their phone is set to GSM, don't change it to CDMA and run a more structured battery test... then change make sure it is set to CDMA AUTO and repeat the same test?
 
Okay... guys, do your CDMA auto reset and THEN go back and do it again without rebooting your phone.

Everytime you do the FORCE CLOSE, the phone presents the option to GSM. I'm thinking it's you mucking about the program that causes the GSM option to appear.

If setting it to CDMA actually worked, then why would it be back to GSM when you try the same stunt 10 seconds later?

The psychologist Skinner noticed that if you placed pigeons in a box and fed them at random intervals thru a small machine operated slot... the pigeons would associate whatever they were doing as instrumental in getting the food. Skinner showed pigeons building on this and ending up doing intricate dances/movements that they thought were needed to get the food. i.e. maybe the whole CDMA/GSM thing is just pigeon feeding time.
 
Hello all, just got my EVO yesterday and have been browsing the forums. I noticed one of the save battery life tricks was to switch the network to CDMA instead of GSM.

This screen shot is from a fresh reboot and it appears to me that my phone is loading CDMA by default. So my question is this, do I really need to do the network switch since it appears mine already loads CDMA by default?

Also how do you tell what version phone you have, 2 or 3 for example. I've seen some posts stating that the V3 phones have less issues and I'm curious if this is one of them. Also I've had zero spontaneous reboots...

mine stays on CDMA auto PRL.

it was GSM and undor less.er battery usage and cellular standby or whatever "Time without signal" was 50%.

Now with it on CDMA auto PRL, it stays around 10%

So now that we know how to change from GSM to CDMA, etc... back to mreortiz's original question. Has anyone noticed major adverse affects? know someone reported poor coverage in his aprtment after change. anyone else?
 
My battery is REALLY draining and I cannot get to the Phone Information menu to try this. I press the HOME key and I assume by the dialer you mean the phone key. I enter *#*#4636#*#* and am not pressing call but get no menu. Could you let me know what to try? Love the phone but the battery is a drag.

press HOME, and bring up the dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#* (Do not press "Call"). After a second, it should bring up the "Testing" menu.

Go into Phone Information, press MENU, and tap "select radio band." You should experience a Force Close, don't panic, this was supposed to happen. Scrolling down shows that the preferred network type is GSM auto (prl).

What this means is that even though you are connected to a CDMA network, your phone is trying to find a GSM network, preventing the radio from sleeping, and causing excessive battery drain.

Remedy this by tapping GSM auto (prl), and changing it to CDMA auto (prl).

That no longer works, now you must download 'network' app from the market. Install, scroll down to set preferred network type, dropdown box below will contain the radio choices.
 
Thanks for the help. Got the network app and have th menu. Should I select GSM auto (PRL)? It is now set to CDMA auto (PRL). Hoping for the big battery savngs soon!

Ok. I have "network philipp mangelow" on the phone now. I can go to the menu and select from the numerous different types. When you select the one you want, do you just hit the back key and it saves it? I have turned the phone off and on and 75% of the time it will stay set to CDMA prl auto. Just not sure if im doing everything correctly. Did a batt pull and im still at 43% without signal at 4.5 hours into the day.

As per the post above with not following direction, there is no "select radio band" after hitting the menu key in the network app. in the app, upon hitting the menu key, i get
View SIM address book
View service dialing numberDisable
Disable data connection
View fixed dialing number
Get PDP list
...More

in the more button there is
Disable data on boot
Fake MEID

? any clarification would be great. thanks in advance

the phone i have is an EVO 4G

Model: PC36100
Android version: 2.3.5

If more info is needed let me know what to add here.
