change icons with stock launcher

There seems to be an option to long press an icon, and change the icon to another one available in the list, but just wondered if you are able to change the icon to something from an icon pack?

This is with the LG G3 stock launcher

I asked the same thing recently but it seems you must have a launcher installed.
