Help Change Text Messaging Program

I downloaded the Handcent text app as I could not figure out how (or even if it was possible) to make groups in the default texting program. But now I am receiving double text's to both programs.

How do I turn off the original default text program? I have uninstalled, marked stop running and it keeps working.

Jesus...

Go to your regular messaging app, hit the menu key when it's opened, go to Settings, go to notifications...uncheck it...you will no longer get notifications.

Thank you...I know it sounds so simple but since I am just learning about all that these phones can do and where everything is located, this has been helpful.
