Change text notification sound.

I changed the "Notification" sounds but when I receive a new text message it's still that annoying stock sound. I searched around, sorry for the noob question.

Did you do it by going into the text messageing app first then hitting menu and settings?

Open Messaging, Menu - Settings - Notification Sound. you might have changed the email notification sound or something else.

It appears that !every! event that generates a 'notification' has its own setting.

I have 2 email accts set up and I had to go to each account and change the notification setting.

With the mail account on the screen:
[menu]
[more]
[settings]
[Notification settings]
[Check boxes]
Email notifications,
Notification sound,
Notification vibrate

I'm having the same problem, I can change the outgoing sound but when I recieve a text its the same sound.

Same problem here. Downloaded the "droid" sms notification and it will stick on the stock sms program but not handcent (my main sms client). Any ideas?

Firstly, does the EVO have an LED notification light on the front?
If so, can I turn off my text sound and just make it blink when I get a text?

yes there is a led indicator behind the earpiece and yes you can turn off the notification sound.

Messaging>Settings>Uncheck Play Notification Sound

Settings>Sound and Display>Notification Flash>Make Sure MMS and SMS Are Checked
