I have changed my battery to a higher mah one but the battery indicator has turned grey with an exclaimation mark over it, my phone is a htc desire and the new battery is a 2300 mah gold. Could someone please let me know if this is normal or am i damaging my phone,Please help me.

I took the new heavy duty battery and charged it for a god 12 hours until on ABOUT, BATTERY it showed completely GREEN BARS so fully charged. At this point the light on phone still showed amber.
i then shut down and removed the haevy duty battery and fully charged my old standard battery until it showed Green light and ABOUT BATTERY was fully charged.
On swapping back then to haevy duty battery the grey icon had disappeared, the indicator light was green and all seemed as it used to be.
i now need to see how long this charge on heavy duty lasts.
