Changed my mind already..

you seem to be very unbiased for owning the droid yourself so i'll ask you this - does the overall feel of the droid feel "cheap"? (i.e. plastic like)? thats one thing my friend returned his because and the other... well... how does it work as a PHONE? he (and others) claim that the droid phone makes your voice sound like your in a "box" (or some kind of weird voice problem when speaking to others)... any word on this?

The Motorola Dorid is the most solid phone I have ever owned. It honestly feels like it is built like a tank. It is the furthest thing from cheap IMO. My daughter has complained of an echo several times but if I switch her phones and go into the other room I cannot hear it myself. Other than that I have had no complaints. Two things I should note though ,1) I use a Plantronics 590 stereo bluetooth headset for 90% of my calls and 2) I dont talk on the phone much. I hate talking on any phone and prefer email or text. Phone calls always sound good on my end unless I am talking to my parents who have ATT , lol.

just to follow up on the 'early 2010' thing i was talkin bout.. found this info from a thread in which the guy has been claiming to know things we do not (as working for verizon) .. many eyes and ears have been listening to this guy, so i dont want to call him reliable, but what he says falls in line with what HTC and other sites have been 'rumored' to say...people have been waiting for him to post something from an htc rep he was supposed to talk to and this is what he had to say-- here's the post:

611 is Customer Care, and exactly that is what they do "Customer Service" not sales, it's all in a need to know basis, just because they work for Verizon doesn't mean they know everything going on. Customer Care might know of new features that Verizon will be coming out with because it relates to their department but not new phones, they have nothing to do with new phones.

With that being said, I spoke to the HTC rep and HTC is keeping things really really quiet. But there is an Android 2.1 phone coming out early January but he has no additional info on it as they are not releasing that info yet.

This is the e-mail I received from him.

Hey Sam,
Nothing yet. All I know is that something with Android 2.1 is going to come out in the first half of January. They didn

If you don't have the cash now for the phone you really can't afford it.

Wow swine. you assume because i cant get the phone right away, I cant afford it. I assure you, I can handle my finances and this phone just fine, thank you. Its just a matter of timing right now.

You shouldn't make a statement like that if you dont have the facts in hand.

And yes, I have only played with both in the store, so my experince is definetly limited. I guess to make the time go by faster I can go to the store and play with them some more.

cant wait for droid

I didn't keep my Droid but it definitely did NOT feel cheap. It was a very solid-feeling (too bulky and heavy but solid!) device. My Droid actually had pretty good reception and call quality. I have seen others complain about it though...

My wife and I both bought the Eris the weekend it came out. It's a nice little phone, no problems with it. But I longed for the bigger screen and faster processor, and I ended up changing my mind and getting the Motorola Droid instead.

My wife still loves her phone. I LOVE my Droid. In my opinion, it completely blows the Eris away.

BUT, I have to qualify that statement with saying that I rooted my Droid and am running 2.1 on it. 2.1 ROCKS and I have not found a bug in it yet. I've been able to change the stupid red eye boot animation and the disgusting peeing droid on the 2.1 animation.

DROID is the best phone I've had.

what are your guys' opinion of the call quality. i keep seeing these threads popping up about how bad the phone quality is in terms of it sounding muffled on incoming and outgoing calls. as bad as i want to get the droid, i can't have this on a phone. what are your guys' experiences with this? how is the quality of the PHONE?

thanks
jen

The Droid phone quality seems very good to me. Everyone I've asked says I sound OK and they sound OK to me.

Motorola has been making communications equipment for a very long time, so I think they would know how to make a decent sounding phone.
