Help Changing App Installs to SD Card

I'm following the steps here: http://www.fixedbyvonnie.com/2014/06/install-android-apps-sd-card-default/
When I type adb shell pm get-install-location, it says 2[external], but I am still told I have insufficient storage when downloading the app, and my SD card is 8 gigs. My phone is an HTC Desire 612.

How much internal storage do you have?
I think the app has to install to internal before moving to external plus part of the app is left on internal (could be wrong)

almost 600 MB. I'll try and delete a big app and install it again.

Good idea The system also has to keep some internal storage to function so clear as much space as possible

Would you recommend rooting? With rooting I can get around this, but I apparently wouldn't be eligible for warranty.

Yeah. Root and use the app Link2SD.
Sorry I didn't read your link and just assumed you were rooted using a root script or Link2sd.
Try and root properly using a method that installs custom recovery so you can make a backup of the complete phone in case you mess anything up.
Yeah rooting/flashing will void your warranty

Just had a look at the link and that guide is for a Samsung
