Changing from iphone 5s to HTC one M8

Hi everyone

I am seriously considering changing from my iphone 5s to the HTC one M8. I really want a larger screen and the ability to customise my phone as I see fit without having to jailbreak/root and void warranty. I am after a phone that plays games and music well and takes decent photos/videos. Im just a bit nervous about selling my iphone and not liking the M8. Is there anyone who has taken the plunge from iphone to the HTC one M8? If so what are your thoughts. Do you like it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I went from a iPhone 5 (not the S, but my 2 kids have the S), to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and as of last week, the HTC One M8.
In all fairness, all are very good phones. I switched to the GN2 because I wanted a larger screen. Now I love android, but wanted something with a premium feel. The plastic feel of the Samsung felt cheap. The bezel has a lot of chips, but I have never dropped the note. On top of that, the last update messed up my phone. Laggy and killed my battery. Would only last half a day if I'm lucky. No thank you Samsung. I do miss the S pen but that's about it.

So far I'm loving the M8 and don't regret it one bit. The iPhone is solid feeling and this M8 feels even more solid and it's android. It's basically the best if everything rolled into one. Almost anyway, there's just the camera issue. If it had ois and higher pixels, this phone would be near perfect.

How bad is the camera? I do take a lot of photos/videos of my 15 month son. I find that the phone is more convenient to use because it is always in my pocket.

Both my mom and my girl friend went from an iPhone to HTC one and loved it. It takes some getting used to but the amount of new features and freedom are worth the time.

And the camera is good overall. Outdoor photos and decent, may be better with updates but is definitely capable of taking great photos. The front facing camera and low light pictures are where it shines over all other cameras.

Side note, if you do get the one m8, if you install HTC sync you can easily move everything from iTunes/wmp onto your new phone.

Hey bud, I have not switched myself (always had android), but my fiance has recently switched from the iPhone 4s. She was a little apprehensive, she thought Android was complicated and was a little intimidated by the fact that she could change pretty much everything, keyboard, messenger app, launcher, etc... Plus she was worried about her I tunes. Once she held the phone at the store she felt a little more comfortable. I showed her how simple Android can be and made sure she knew how the basic functions of the UI worked.
She paused for a second and picked up the 5S, and I told her to get what ever she wanted, no pressure (she knows I'm a die hard Android guy lol). Once she saw the $100 price difference from the 16 gb to the 32gb 5S she was pissed. I told her about the 128 expandability option on the m8 and she was shocked.
Anyways, I reassured her that we would transfer her iTunes music over to the m8 and it was done. That was a month ago and she loves her m8, she just cruises through the UI now and she tells me that she likes the camera a lot compared to her iPhone 4s.go for it man, all I can tell you is to be patient though, It is something new and will take time to figure out completely.

So far I have no complaints about the camera. I don't take much video but the ones that I did take came out fine. I guess if you do side by side comparisons, there may be a difference. But for my needs, it's all good.

I came from the 4s and love the M8. Most of my issues are Android related rather than the M8 specific.

My biggest issue with the M8 is obviously the camera. It's a decent camera and I've taken plenty of nice shots with it. But at the end of the day it's just a 4mp camera. Photos that look great on the phone just don't translate to the computer well.

The other issues I have are just shortcomings of Android vs iOS. My main issue is Google's implementation of reminders. On iOS I just hold down the button tell Siri what I want to be reminded of and it ends up in my todo list with a time to remind me. Those reminders show up on my Mac and my phone when they are due. It's just not that easy on Android and doesn't fit my workflow. Unfortunately for me that's a big deal.

That being said I love the phone but am left wishing Google did a better job integrating certain services.

I disagree...I am so fed up with everything 'i' that I am extracting my family as rapidly as I can. My wife spent 2 hours this afternoon simply trying to get the music in her iTunes library to actually sync with her iPod...

impossible of course. The iPod says it has synched but the new songs in the iTunes Library are missing from the iPod...

I figure the only fix is to remove all music from the computer, remove the iTunes software, reload the music and reload the stinking software and hope magic happens and this decade old technology will actually sync...

OR, my wife can do what I did long ago and junk the iPods, load her Samsung phone with music without the 'help' of Apple and use a decent music software like Neutron.

check out the pics thread here

the pics are good enough for social media, but i would not print out 8x10s using this camera.

I'm having the same issue with my iPod. I went to an Apple store and they were helpless. I'm selling the piece of junk. But to keep it on topic, there's a thread already with plenty of pictures to look at. Choose for yourself.

The one thing I had to get used to with the M8 is the overall feel of the plastic buttons. They are a lot shallower and cheaper feeling than the iPhone 5s buttons, so you might not have the same confidence in them durability-wise as you would with the 5S.

After a week or so though I got used to it.

The only plastic button it has is the power button and that's for the IR blaster.

thanks for the replies everyone. I sold my iphone and I bought the M8. I have had it for a couple of days now and I absolutely love it. Just need to figure out if I need an antivirus for surfing the web. I understand it is not necessarily needed for downloading apps (since I only download from play store and check for good reviews) but do I need it to surf the web?. I don't download anything from the internet directly with my phone but I do look at a lot of websites.
Sorry guys I don't know a lot about android security measures.

As long as you know what you're downloading you should be ok. I've been on android since 2010, very rarely use antivirus for anything. Once in a while I'll load up an Antivirus suite to check it out, but always end up deleting it because I never need to use it. :)

There's a few really good apps out there in case you'd rather be safer than sorry, like Lookout Mobile Security, or Avast!.

As long as you pay attention to the permissions apps request before you download and install them, you'll be ok. :)

PS: Welcome to Android!! :D

I had a iPhone 5 and tgraded it for a HTC one and at first loved it but got talked into switching to a iPhone 5s when it came out and hated it mainly due to the size soi I just sold the iPhone 5s and got a M8 and love it...................buy the M8
