Hey there dudes (and dudettes),

Based in the UK but can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere but is it possible to change the gps.conf on my DHD without rooting?

Kinda happy with it but noticed the GPS takes an age to find its sats.

So checked out the default on the gps.conf under /system/etc/ and noticed the ntp_server=north-america.pool.ntp.org

I just wanna chage it to uk.pool.ntp.org to see if it makes any difference, but obviously this conf file is read only...can't su as i dont have superuser permissions...so is there another way round?

Thanks in advance all,
Eddie

Thinking about it....should i just use Visionary from MoDaCo to provide me with temp root to modify the file? will that work?

You beat me to it! I have exactly the same problem/issue. Wanting to change to the UK server and don't want to do a permanent root. I was thinking of following the instructions here ... Universal Android Temp Rooting Method (Visionary Method) (Updated 12.01.10) | TheUnlockr ... as far as '9', then edit the file. Would this work?
