Root Changing Icons

Sorry if this question has been answered before, but I tried searching and as a result tried using Bettercut--with no luck. I'm looking to change the icons on my homescreen, gmail, voicemail, people, messages, etc. When I use bettercut, I get mixed results. For example, the Messages icon changes back to the stock icon or the camera loses functionality when I change its icon. I am rooted, running Damage Control. I tried looking to see if there was anyway to maybe install via recovery, but couldn't find a definitive answer. Any help would be much appreciated.
