Help Changing In Call Volume?

On my DX I could change the call volume while the screen was blank. However, on the Bionic I have to turn the display on for the volume up/down buttons to work. Is that normal? If so, is there any way to change it so the call volume can be adjusted during a call with a blank screen?

I blame this on the digital age, but I very rarely if ever call someone, but I also noticed this.

Anyone know a fix?

My volume will adjust when the screen is black. I just tested it while listening to old voicemails.

EDIT: After further review, it will not change unless briefly pull it away from my head and return it, than it adjusts for a short time.

Not being able to change volume during a call without pulling the phone away is a huge problem for me!

Any solutions out there?
