Root Changing keyboard/Dialer

So after flashing several Roms, I think the one that I keep coming back to is Froshedyo_v10. This Rom is really nice has a great UI and appears to be extremly stable.

With that being said i hate the dialer! I'm really not a big fan of the gingerbread keyboard either. I know I can go onto the market and download a new keyboard and dialer but I really dont like any of them either. What i would love to have is the default vanilla dialer and preferabbly the vanilla HTC_IME keyboard. When i was using Nonsensikal v16 I absolutely loved the HTC_IME keyboard that was on it. It had some type of theme to it. It was black with blue icons, on some of the keys. I'm sure any of you who have flashed Nonsensikal know what I am talking about.

I have done some searching around and so far the only thing i found was the vanilla keyboard. It was an attachment on grdlocks download site. I put the zip file on my sd and flashed it but something didnt go right. When the phone booted up it constantly kept displaying an error message and i had to keep force closing it. I couldnt find any instructions on how to install it, so i dont know if i installed it wrong or if it only works if you have a Sense UI.

Anyone who can shed some light on what my options are would be great. I really would like to stay with this ROM but I hate sacrificing the dialer and keyboard.

Thanks

I had some issues with the ime keyboard and froyo, yrmv. swift keyboard looks pretty similar so it may be worth a shot.

also, I used dialer one for a long time, its pretty customizable.

There are two options other than the one you said (get a keyboard in the market). You can download a ROM with a keyboard that you like, unzip it, and find the .apk for the keyboard and install it on your phone with root explorer (or something similar) or you can go here (choose low resolution for the eris) and you can theme your own keyboard. This will give you a custom HTC_IME keyboard, and I believe you can upload your own logos to put on the spacebar and all that.

Ok so let me make sure i am following correctly. I can unzip a rom that i downloaded, and then open the system folder and then the app folder, the next thing I see is a list of .apk files.

I can then copy one of those files onto my sd card and use Astro (which is what I have installed) to run the .apk file and install that application to my phone?

Like I said earlier i really like the HTC_IME keyboard in Nonsensikal and i like the vanilla sense dialer. I dont see anything that is labeled keyboard under the system/app folder in the Nonsensikal_v16 ROM. Does anyone know what the name of that keyboard is under that folder? Also could i unzip the xtrsense rom and install that dialer even though it is sense based?

You should be able to use them, but I have never tried it myself. The easier way for the keyboard would probably be to use the link I posted above and theme the keyboard to look like the one you like. As for the dialer in xtrsense, you can try it, but it might depend on other parts of the htc sense to work the way it does. I just use dialer one instead of the stock.

Yeah I have dialer one installed. Its better than stock dialer but still not that crazy about it. I will mess around and see what happens. I would imagine worst case scenario, i would have to restore a Nand backup.

Thanks
