Changing Keyboards?

How do I do this? I thought it would be simple enough, download the keyboard then go in to keyboard and select it, jobs a goodin, but I select the keyboard and still have the HTC one which I can't type on, What am I doing wrong?

Try long pressing in a text input box, it will pop up a keyboard chooser

Yep, tap into a text box to bring up the keyboard, then long press and there's an option called something like "Input Method".
