Root Changing Network Banner

Is there anyway to change the banner in the notification bar from "extended network" or "verizon wireless" to something else? I know it can be done with some ROMS on the D1 but I have yet to see it done on the DX. Can it be done?

Liberty 1.5 has the feature to allow this.. aslo you can follow this

I give up.. I tried following the instructions on that link that seemed simple enough. But when I got to the part to actually edit the information, the xml editor comes up with all jibberish instead of giving me the "verizon wireless" like its suppose to. I have no idea..

thank god for restoring backups. tried to do this following the instructions on that link, lets just say that it really screwed up my phone. And I consider myself pretty handy with computers.

faber has a good tutorial written up. 100% of the time it works all the time. If you do it right.

Faber's tutorial is super easy to follow. I like it not having anything in the banner area... just nice an empty. Its also way easier to just delete what is in there instead of trying to edit the text.
