Changing the dock

Silly question, I'm sure but can I change my dock without adw or launcher pro?...as in no addtional software.

I hate the stock metro dock....

I guess I should have asked how then also, silly me...

How would I go about doing that then? I can't figure it out...I'm not new to android by any means but I am new to gingerbread....
 
That would probably involve decompiling of the launcher.apk, and the framework-res.apk and editing the images and xml files. :)
