Changing the statusbar color

Hi if you can send me the original file too/ getting sporadic issues with my rooted mod/ gonna try to redo via original update... don't even ask... thanks in advance....

I found one more request I can email off to the GDE dev now. His background doesn't cover the whole screen. :/

How do I know? My Transparent taskbar. :D

These pictures are of the same statusbar... the only thing that changed between the two sets was the default home / gde home.

Fade, where'd you get this statusbar? The one on droidforums is greyish and sloppy looking on my phone. Looking for true transparent one like yours or black or something.

I made it myself.

If you have an idea of what you want for a status bar and you feel comfortable screwing with your framework-res.apk, I can try to make you something and give you a quick how-to on putting it on the phone. I warn you now, though... I am not the best at photoshop. Changing colors and handling transparency I can do. Past that, not so sure.

Don't know if you saw my screen shots that I had in the other thread or not, but this is what I am using on my phone now... (The status bar icons were stripped from a theme pack, and I wouldn't use them without asking for permission from the creator.)

Mmm. I've tried making/messing with my own, but without photoshop the best I can do is make a pure black one (is it embarassing I can't figure out windows 7 paint?) . Its okay, but if you wouldn't mind sharing )... hah if it is a lot (seems like you put a lot of work into it) then even just the background9 transparent file you use would be better than what I have now..

I use gimp. Transparency is done in less than 2 seconds. I open the picture, grab the transparency slider, toss it down to whatever (notification is 30%, status bar is 100%) and I'm done. Changing the colors is almost as easy.

Gimp is free, bro. Might be worth your time to check it out... it is a pretty amazing program. It is pretty much an open source version of photo shop.

Download Gimp

The quick and ugly: I can't remember which side it is on when you first load the program... Mine is on the left side of the screen right now. Anyway... one of your docks will have the transparency bar. It looks like this...

l_705b44160dfb49fd84f282276b77b93b.jpg

If you don't see that window, you can open it by clicking the "Window" tab on the top of your main window and selecting "Dockable Dialogs > Layers".

The color option is under "Colors > Colorize".

If you are trying to change the color of something and either get an error message or the color just doesn't change, it is because a large portion of the png files in your framework-res folder are either grayscale or indexed. If this happens, go to "Image > Mode" and select "RGB". Change the color accordingly and save. It will ask you if you want to export. Just answer yes.

That should be enough to get you started. Let me know if you run into any snags.

btw, to get your framework res off your phone, just open a command line in sdk and type this:

adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk

Getting it back on is a bit trickier. Let me know if you need instructions for that part too.

Ninja edit: If you still want me to do it for you, just PM me with some sort of general idea about what you want, and we can run from there with it.

Sorry I must have given the wrong impression. That is all a very informative post however.

I know and have used gimp, but never on windows. Adobe is semi-free to me too, with university software, I just have been avoiding installing too many software suites I'd barely use on this thing, 3ds adobe office... word and excel is as far as I have gone.

I've already done a couple framework-res swaps, and done one where I made the bar, so getting it set up is fine. But I'm sure that post will help 100s of googlers.

I was just asking if you had that background9 you used handy, so I could just download that and shove it in my 2.1 framework-res, instead of downloading all the software to do the same ).

But if its not 'handy' / a hassle its not a huge issue to do edit the alpha in some liteweight photoediter, just figured I'd ask before downloading/installing something big.

lol OOPS, yeah I guess I missed what you were trying to say. Sorry about that.

The wallpaper is the "Grass" from the 2.1 Live Wallpaper library. To the best of my knowledge, it won't work on 2.0 or 2.0.1, and if you have 2.1, then you already have it.

Heh nonono. I have the grass background, i meant...

When you said you made the notification bar yourself, you did it by editing the notification bar files in the framework-res . I wanted to know if you had a copy of the .png you used to make your notification bar transparent, so i could put it in my framework-res and use it ). I have 2.1 I'm trying to 'complete the look.'

went ahead and made it. 100% transparent looks real nice.

One bug is dragging the notification bar down, the date overwrites the notification icons. Gonna fool around to see if i can remove the icons that show on the left, replace with transparents. don't need em anyway.

This zip file includes the fully transparent statusbar, semi transparent notification menu, and fully transparent sliders for the lock... both landscape and horizontal.

In case you don't know it, for some reason the backgrounds on home replacement apps don't cover the whole screen. If you are using one, it will just be black under the status bar. In order for it to have the full effect, you'd have to use the default home. But then, since you are on 2.1, I'm sure you are. :)

Transparent Effects

lol your last post was while I was zipping the file and writing this. I'm getting too slow.

Heh I'll try it anyway since it sounds like you did some extra niceties.

Also, sounds like you arent complaining about overlapping text/icons when dragging the notification bar, and also haven't heard you complain about notification background overlapping the transparent bar until you drag it all the way down. The semi-black transparent background to the actual notifications dropdown would overlap my fully transparent notification bar until i dragged the drawer all the way down.

I just loaded a fully transparent notification background to combat this, but it just looks funny having the drawer handle at the bottom with nothing connecting it...

Lets see what yours looks like...

Lol so uh. I download yours, rename it to framework-res.apk, throw it in there, no hitch.

Then I copy it to the system/framework folder, and think wow that copied quickly, oh well, reboot.

While my phone is rebooting, i check the file you sent. 7kb. I pull my battery out haha.

Couple trips to recovery and I'm fine. From now on maybe I should check it out first eh? Careless.

Anyway, now that my phone boots again I'm going to try the files you sent. Thanks in advance.

Yep similar issue. Your black notification background eclipses the clear notification bar until its dragged all the way. I guess I'll have to put up with the totally clear background until I can think of a better image to put in. Oh well.

Sorry about that... I probably should have included some instructions. That wasn't the whole framework-res... just a few files to drag and drop into your existing folders.

Yes, you will see that anytime you have a transparent status bar. I don't have it half open/ half closed often enough for it to concern me. I drag it down when I get alerts, and that is about it. My concern was just for the view of the home screen.

You could also use regular pictures as the background for your status bar. I haven't played around with doing this yet, but I played a little bit with the notification handle. Here is what I would assume based on that..

First, your notification bar will probably need to be 480 x 38. 38 is the height of the default status bar, and 480 is the width of the screen.

The default bar is obviously much smaller, which means it is either cloned or stretched in order to attain the full width. I would assume this will hold true while you are in landscape. It might be possible to create a version of the status bar that is 854 x 38 and dropping it into the landscape folder without renaming it and having it work that way, but I don't know.

You actually have me quite curious now, so if you aren't brave enough to wing it, just wait until I've tried. ;)

But once you own/learn PS, there's no going back. ;) Fortunately for me, PS CS4 cost me nothing. Otherwise, I'd probably still be using alternatives.

Yeah, that is kind of my stoppage on the whole deal. I had PS Elements for a while, but Gimp can do way more than Elements, so I just stuck with it. If CS4 was free for me, I'd stick with that instead.

Transparent Effects

Hi everyone. I'm new to rooting, but I love what I've been able to do to my Droid since I rooted it.

I would really like to put the transparent bar in place, but I'm not sure how to do it exactly. Once I download this zip file, what do I do with it?

I saw some step-by-step instructions on this link: Transparent Status Bar and Shade for Rooted Droid! - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

But I don't want the gray status bar, I really like Fadelight's transparent bar. So can anyone give me some pointers?

Thank you! :o

You can follow those instructions, just use the zip from here that you want.

I've responded to your PM. ;)

To anyone else who is interested, I've uploaded the APK file to save a few steps. Here goes...

Plug your phone into your PC and mount the SD card.

Download this file to the root of your SD card. (Don't put it in any folders.)

Unmount your phone.

Open an adb shell and type the following:

su

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

busybox cp -R /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework

reboot

Go into Market and sign back in, and you are done.

HHEEELLLPPPP!!!!

I think I broke my phone!!

I tried the steps above, and it didn't work. I then compared it to the steps on the other link, and there it says to do mtdblock4, not mtdblock3

So I typed mtdblock4 instead, and I rebooted from the adb shell in the computer.

The boot animation went fine, and then when I got to my homescreen, I freaked out!

It is all black. Instead of the unlock button, there is a green button with an airplane symbol on it. It says NO SERVICE.

The bar IS transparent, but it has these weird symbols on it, not the normal ones.

AND, to make it worse, EVERYTHING is force closing. I'm getting messages after messages of force closing. NOTHING works.

I can't even pull down the notification bar to get mount my sdcard in order to delete the .apk file from there. All these stupid force close messages keep propping up.

Also, it says that the date is Wednesday, December 31 (the 31 is a thursday, though), and it has a time of 6 hours from now.

NOW,

I am actually still in debugging mode, and I still have access to adb shell.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?? I'M FREAKING OUT HERE!!!

(Why oh why did I have to root my beautiful Droid! I think I killed it!!)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

 :(

I believe your in Airplane Mode. Press the power button and select Airplane Mode to turn it off

Not that easy I'm afraid. I tried turning it off, and it was already off.

I tried turning it on, just to see what would happen, and it said Airplane Mode On, but I couldn't turn it back off again. Same black screen, same force close messages, etc.

Oh well. I'm turning and leaving it off until I get home, when I can restore my 2.0.1 rom on it.

This is ridiculous.
