Charging cable MUST be Samsung-branded, or doesn't matter?

This is true, however you'd have to be crazy to have usb 3 hardware and incompatible cables.

To the best of my knowledge usb 3 cables only have two types of connectors and micro usb isn't one of them. (at least not the 'micro b' connector) So maybe the cable you have is highly insulated or shielded?
 
didnt someone's SG3 go up in flames from the charging point possibly using an in car charger (possibly not Samsung) and could be the cause or what Samsung may say is the cause
It could be said that Samsung are clearly misleading people when they claim that the new Galaxy S III is​

Not necessarily crazy. When I upgraded my PC I left the SATA 2 cables in (for convenience) when I should have used the SATA 3 cables provided with the mobo. A guy who does extensive reviews of mobo's on Youtube admitted that he did the same. It's only obvious with hindsight.

Are all chargers interchangable these days or should I only use the one that was sent with the phone?
 
Chargers, batteries, and their care and feeding are religious issues, so be forewarned. If you want to be super safe use only the phone manufacturer's chargers. But having said that, I use Samsung, Motorola, LG and Blackberry chargers interchangeably with no ill effects. Most better OEM chargers fall into the 800mA to 1A range.
 
I've got so many cables and charges between my office and house that I've always just used whatever is available. But I really don't want to harm my beautiful new baby this early in its life...yet I've got it on a motorola charger right now and it's working fine..
 
Using a generic charger like micro USB is not as big of a deal. They are standard now and I switch chargers all the time. No issues what so ever. Only thing I have seen is the amount of time it takes to charge a phone.

For people worried about using different chargers from different companies should not have an problem. However not using a Samsung battery compared to one you got for $5 on eBay is a completely different story.
 
I haven't even unwrapped the charger and cable that came with it - using one I already had for my E4GT. Which also has great battery life, I might add.........
 
The charger I had in my car, which worked perfectly fine for Galaxy Nexus does not work at all for the S3. No idea why. Also, I found out when I had my Galaxy Nexus that some cables charge phone faster than the other.
 
One thing that would matter is whether or not the charger being used is a regulated or unregulated wall adapter. I don't see it mentioned on the stock Samsung branded charger, nor on the one that came with my LG Ally, which I also use.

Regulated adapters will put out a consistent voltage up to their current rating. But unregulated adapters ("wall warts") typically provided with a lot of electronic devices are designed for a specific current load. If the load placed on them is less than anticipated, the voltage rises. Conversely, a higher drain on them will cause the voltage to fall. Under these circumstances charging times could vary.

I can say that the 800 mAH charger I had used sometimes for my Droid X charges the S3 a lot more slowly than the stock 1A charger it came with. If that 800 mAh charger isn't well regulated (or at all) it's voltage could be dropping when the S3 is connected, which would make the already lesser current take even longer to charge.

But as long as you use another charger rated at the same 1A current rating as the charger the S3 came with, the charging times should be the same for both chargers.
 
I also have had no problems using any generic chargers. I use rocketfish while at home and Samsung stock when I'm at my apartment. Also while at home, I use the Apple wall adapter. Not a single problem so far! *Knock on wood*
 
I've used Motorola cables, Monoprice cables, Samsung cables, random cables, all work. Never a problem with any of them.
 
I love that most companies are finally getting on board and allowing for use of a universal charger. All my micro usb chargers can be used on all my devices whether it's my gs3, blackberry playbook, or point-and-shoot camera. Not all companies try and suck you dry on accessories like Apple does. FYI , the iPhone 5's port will be different size then all it's predecessors. So iPhone 5 users will have tip buy all new chargers, docks, etc. Talk about a slap in the face if you're a loyal customer.
 
Why would you have to buy new charger with new phone ? New phones come with chargers.

No they wont the new iphone just like other iphones come with chargers.
