Charging Cradle

anyone know where we can still get this dock? I can't believe that there is really none available anywhere...not even knock offs anymore. It's like there was only 50 people that ever bought this phone and everyone dropped support for it. If anyone finds a dock for this phone that is still available (new or used), hit me up.

Thanks.

You just have to wait... Sucks but true.

I took me three tries before i snagged a second one off Verizon. They keep going out of stock! Its a popular item.

There was some on Amazon and eBay but they are all sold out too now. Be patient, keep checking. You could contact Verizon and see when they will be back in stock. One local store told me before Christmas.

Looks like we are out of luck
order date 12/2

"Thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless. Your order cannot be processed due to the following:

wow, lame. One of the single best accessories for this phone and you can't tell me they aren't making money from charging $30 for a piece of molded plastic....

Well I guess I'm going to have to ghetto rig something together to act as a dock instead because it is much more convenient to use the dock then to open the USB cover every time.

I thought of doing that myself but did't want to run the risk of letting the smoke out of mine just to save $20.

They are not discontinued... I emailed Casio through their website about it, told them i was looking for one, and their reply was they are out of stock but in production.

I've had an order pending from the vz accessory store from Nov 23 or somewhere around there I haven't gotten any cancellation notices yet.I did get an email saying they were on backorder and would be shipped as soon as they come in.I bet it'll be a mad rush when they do come in.

So I've been planning to make one in fiberglass (to accommodatea hard case I use to thicken the phone for feel) can anyone open one up and make sure it's Just wired straight through without a special chip or anything ? Also verify with a volt meter which side is positive? I believe it's the side towards the power button but would like to make sure.

Thanks,
John

I can grab mine later take a look, i don't remember seeing any screws on it though so probably can't take it apart. But pretty sure its wired straight through as most of these charging docks are, they are basically just an adapter that takes the 5v from the stock charging cord and puts it on two contacts, no reason for any circuitry in them, just changing the connection to the phone not the way it charges.

ah, but that is the thing, a lot of docks have a tiny magnet in them that will activate a magnetic switch inside the phone when the phone is put in the right position. This is how the phone knows it was put into a dock versus just attached to a charger. The magnetic switch is a trick used by a lot of devices with exposed contacts such as the Commando's.

I haven't seen one yet that use what you speak of. They are done the same way as all two way radio equipment is these days. The contacts on the phone are isolated by a diode basically, there is no voltage on the contacts, by applying voltage to them puts it in charge.

I checked the dock, there is 5v on the contacts at all times, so its just a simple contact charger.

Thanks for checking the straight through for me. Which side is positive? On a side note the different docks for high end HTC stuff and the Motorola stuff like the x use magnets to differentiate the media docks from car docks to launch different programs. That was not my concern in this simpler phones case.

Thanks,
John

I wanted to drill through the base to mount to dash so I pried it open enough to see a circuit board and decided not to.

You could get some industrial strength velcro at a craft store and go that route. I've done this many times, most recently with a car I decided to sell and the sticky was easily removable with "goof off" type of sticky remover. Makes your cradle easy to get off if you want and no drilling anything.:)

The circuit board in there appears to just be a way to route the power from the USB jack to the contacts, very low component count. I will have to take one apart completely to know for sure, but there is 5v on the contacts when i checked.

As for which pin is positive... Darn now i don't remember for sure which way it was!!

I will have to check again when i get time, which has been a hard item to get lately.

LOL damn people are desperate for this charger. Bids are up to $77 right now. Good pictures on here to for the few that want to build one.

Casio Commando G'zOne Desktop Cradle DTC771 Charger | eBay

I saw that, only one on ebay!

The other sources posted above do still have them in stock.

i've owned almost every G'zOne up to now and the charging cradle always came with the device. I was pretty disappointed to have to cough up an extra $20 for a necessary accessory.

LOL Lets buy a butt load and sell them for a damn good profit, just make sure the others who bid but lost know that we are selling it.
