Help Charging/Hard Wiring question

I'm trying to think of a good way to mount my Droid X car mount in a more permanent fashion.

Currently it's on a friction bag on the dash, but that means I got the charger cable hanging and that drives me nuts.

Anyways, I was thinking of hard wiring it. Does anyone know of a specific adapter to use for the X?

Currently I have a USB port plugged into my 12v socket and charge the phone that way. Doesn't pull on it so much like the typical verizon charger. Which brings up a question, the verizon car charger drops it down to 5 volts to charge, right? So how does it work with the USB charging in the car or a computer say. Does the phone have a regulator built in as well?

Anything that outputs power through a USB port only puts out 5 volts, so use whatever USB car charger you like best.

I used a Kuda mount along with the Droid X car dock. Worked well for me and it sorta looks factory.

Another option is the pro fit mount.

Here are some photos of how it turned out in my vehicle.
