Help Charging Pin on phone borken

saluk2003

Newbie
Hi,

I have accidently broken the charging pin on the desire and the phone will not charge. HTC have said that accidental damage is not under their gurantee and would not fix it without a charge.

I want to know whether the whole board will need replacing or does the charging pin solder off so a new one can be put one.

If the whole board needs replacing where would i find one and how much would it be and same goes for the charging pin.

i have searched the net for a couple of hours now and cannot seem to find any suppliers.

Any help would be appreciated.

if you can't find it on ebay, you may not find it anywhere.

HTC really would be the best bet. Fixing it yourself will void your warranty if you have any other problems in the future. if HTC fix it, your warranty will remain in tact

Yes i may eventually go through HTC but they are charging me a fee for just looking at the phone.

I just wanted to know whether it would be possible just to get a charging pin/circuit and solder it on and if there is a mainboard how much would it cost.

If its the case of a charging pin being replaced im sure HTC would come up with the reason of the entire board being replaced and ripping me off.

That reason would probably be it's cheaper to use your cheap labour force to bung a pretty cheap new board in than hire someone who actually has a clue what they're doing/train someone in the actual art of repair. ;)

I pushed it in to hard and it got stuck and when i tried to pull it out i had to wriggle it about.

Im not sure what the prices are as they said they would quote me after they have received the phone.

They did however say it would cost

FYI

Called HTC again and spoke to someone this time who knew a little bit more than the last person i spoke to. He said that worst comes to worst i'll pay a

Had a customer through my store with a very similar issue.

His metal contact points were bent to all hell, and the little "Tab" in the middle was completely gone.

Repair centre quoted A$210 to fix ...

Not sure if that's helpful or not! :p

Did they replace that part only or did they have put in a new mainboard.

Customer failed to accept the quote within 5 days and sent it back unrepaired. Re-sent it today, will keep you posted as to what they did when it comes back again.

Maybe Nokia owners replace the charging pin of their phone themselves :)
I found this microUSB socket in an online phone shop today.

Hey Sal,

I think I might have a similar problem with mine. Did you send yours away yet? Do you know how long it might take?

Cheers

Stuart,

Yes they sent a UPS courier to pick it up for free on the 15th and they sent me the quote on the 19th and i paid the 20th. Called them today to get an update and they said it would be another 5 working days to test it.
So it might take 2-3 weeks.
