Help Charging port breakage prevention

So I ordered a phone from ebay (Used), and The port was garbage. Returned that for a full refund. Now I ordered another one. I will be inspecting the charging port as well. My question is, what can I do to prevent chargin port problems? I was thinking of putting a bead of non conductive glue or silicone along the edges of the port to stregnthen the hold on it to the board. What you guys think??? Any other suggestions besides buying a different model phone?

I thought about getting a powermat, considering you wouldn't be constantly plugging a charger in and out of the port which would result in much less wear and tear. The only problem that I've read about it is that the powermat shuts off when the phone is %100 charged, and doesn't kick back on until your battery life is about %50. So if you charge your phone overnight you wont get a full charge. That's just what I've read though, I guess you'd just have to buy it and see.

Use an external charger and buy extra batteries. Yeah, it's a pain to have to shut the phone off and change batteries but the usb port isn't being used. I change batteries often and never charge w/usb cord unless I absolutely have to. My wife and I both have EVO's. My wife charged hers w/cord every night. What happened? Her usb port finally failed and broke and she cannot charge it w/a cord anymore. My usb port is still fine.
