Help Charging Question

Hi there,

Newbie here - just made my way off of Crackberry (had a Curve 8900 on an 18 month tarriff) and delighted to have moved across to the Samsung Galaxy SII - looking forward to getting to grips with Android!

My question is this, I can't find anywhere in the Quickstart Guide about recommended initial charging times (for the first time, right out the box) - checked with the place I got it from, and they suggested a minimum of 14 hours, but "to be safe" up to 24!

Now, this just seems a unfeasibly long time even for an initial charge of a handset - in days gone by I remember they used to advise an 'overnight' charge - but with the last few handsets I've had thanks to the new battery tech, initial charges have been as low as 4-6 hours.

Can anyone help on this matter? Is the SGS2's initial charge time REALLY 14-24 hours? Or have I been "assisted" by someone who doesn't know the facts and is just guessing?

Cheers!

Andy

I did it until it was 100%, then let it drained until it switched off 0%. From now on I will charge every night.

Edit: The battery was already partly charged, so I'm guessing the initial maintenance has already been done.

Initial charge times used to be suggested because of the old Ni-Cd batteries that required full charges/discharges to combat the memory effect but has been no longer the case for some time for Li-Ion despite what manuals previously said - they actually prefer to be constantly topped up.
