Cheap, hackable Android tablets?

[Mayhem]

I've not seen any threads on this subject.

Does anyone know of a list of cheap, hackable Android-based tablets? I'm interested in anything that doesn't cost a boatload of cash and has a custom ROM or two.

[9to5cynic]

by hackable do you mean one that you can root?

Spoiler

by the way, like that sig ;D

[Mayhem]

Yes, rootable.

I have seen some cheap tablets but I hesitate taking the plunge because I don't know if they're rootable and if there are any ROMs.

Are there any HP Touchpads left? They can have Android installed on them.

Rumor is that Google is releasing a Nexus like tab under $200 in may. So...that would be completely hackable. Other than that, I do not know of any cheap ones...

B&N Nook Tablet is really nice and only $250. Or the Nook Color, I think that's only $200.

Hm. I did find some relatively cheap tablets at Lightinthebox (Android Tablet | Android Tablet 2012). Whether or not those are rootable I don't know.

Look around the different forums. XDA is the home for a lot of custom ROMs. If people are happily working with custom ROMs and a device has an active community, that's a good sign for 'hacking'.
