CheckROM RevoHD v7 (ICS)

Whilst I can empathise with your frustration at the lack of CheckROM RevoHD v7 you must understand that the CheckROM team have set a very high bar for their past custom ROM's and are not keen to release anything that falls below their high standards.

As mentioned previously on this, and other threads, the initial release of ICS, LPQ, was, in their eyes, less than perfect and, as the old saying goes... "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".

However, ICS has moved on, in leaps and bounds, to LPS and LP8 as well as Android 4.0.4, (for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, etc:), and I feel sure that some of these improvements will be incorporated in the v7 when it is released. Putting it ahead of the stock ROM's and offering a better user experience.

Personally, I do not think that they will lose any CheckROM devotees as their reputation precedes them and custom ROM flashers will flock back to try it upon its release.

In the meantime I am quite content to rest my laurels with CheckROM v6 and am chilled out about it, see here:-

I broadly agree Ironass however for me it also depends on how much more grace the CheckRom mob want. Like many others, I rooted in order to be ahead of the curve with regards updates as much as get shot of bloatware, etc and yet I see that non-rooted users are getting ICS with their service providers (and now on contract-free phones as of today) but I'm still running GB.

As you say, we have been spoilt with CR v6 and I can totally understand why the team want the ICS version to be of the same excellent standard. However, for me that tweet smacks a little too much of elitism for my liking - "You'll get v7 when we're good and ready to give it to you. now clear off and leave us alone, RomBitches!" I want my ICS experience to be a good one, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but if we're still waiting by this time in July they can knob right off.
 
Checkrom v6 is still better than any of the ICS roms I've tried to date.
Go over to ics the way it stands at the moment and you will have a scattering of very nice features granted, but your general user experience in terms of browsing and navigation through menus by scrolling will take a huge dent along with battery and general reliability.
Don't get me wrong, i enjoy giving them a go, but for your every day runner, checkrom v6 has no current equal.
 
According to the last few CheckROM/JKay threads, nothing is going to be happening for quite a while yet in terms of a V7 release. CheckROM are still steadfast in their approach to not release until JKay is ready, and JKay has said that his ICS release will still be quite some time away as he is having quite a few problems getting certain things to work.

If you are eager to go onto ICS but have been waiting due to the CheckROM release, my advice would be to take a CWM backup of your CheckROM v6 system and try a few other ROMs first. I'm going to give AnydX a go today (my first Sammy ICS ROM) and have already tried D4 Rom and Hydrog3n. These two are a tough act to follow, so I'm looking forward to seeing how a Sammy based ICS ROM copes with things.

My last stint on D4/Hydro although very enjoyable, I returned back to GB due to
1. Poor battery life
2. Very poor browsing experience in terms of scrolling, zooming in+out.

Should these 2 problems be sorted (latest few Siyah's seem to have improved things regarding this) then I wont be going back to CheckROM until their ICS offering hits the fan.

I think in all honesty nothing new is going to happen with ICS installed or not. My focus is on the next gen phone now. Bring it on.





EDIT: Ive just played Battlefield 3 with Gadgetcheck...Word of advice. Dont let him pick the server and if he does DONT follow him. "SUICIDE" :D
 
hello guys, im just wondering if what is the purpose of the checkrom? how can i check my phone about the checkrom? and what this checkrom do? do i need to install or unstall checkrom? thank you.
 
It doesnt check your ROM.
It is the name of a ROM, as are Wanamlite, AndyX, Lite'ning, Omega etc. etc.
ROMs are basically your phone's firmware.
 
It seems that GadgetCheck has had an accident at work and not only broken his arm... but one of his phones as well. see here.

The good news for us SGSII owners is that it was the Galaxy Note that broke!

However, there is still no news as to any ETA for CRR v7 I'm afraid. :(

And dont worry. For what I can make out, CheckROM v7 has been complete for some time. They have probably had a few in-house versions as new firmware is released. JKay is working on new things for his ICS release, so its not as if he's given up the ghost, so as soon as JKay has worked his wonders, CheckROM v7 wont be too far behind.

GC is selling is broken note to aid in his purchase of a GS3, but I imagine he'll still dev for GS2 for a little while!

Yeah I've been on Andy x for a couple of days and I'm impressed. It's working nicely with siyah. The browsers bloody annoying though as it keeps blurring in and it of focus and add I've just found out the multi quote button won't work on this forum.

Nice CR on the gs3, even better. I was going to wait until a few devs got their hands on it first anyway.
 
The SGS3...hmmm , I dunno guise. Looks more like a NOTE mini to me. Far too big a screen. The SGS2 is the perfect size phone.

Yeah it is a big screen but the phone won't be anywhere near the size of the note. I've not held one myself but apparently the reduced size of the bezel means its not much bigger than the gs2 and damn that thing looked thin. Plus the quad core processor, you don't want to know what's going on in my pants.

I'm so glad you said CPU, I was about to go off in some other direction (if you excuse the double entendre :vroam:

It does come with the equivalent of the gs2 extended battery as standard though so it should be alright. I'm probably more concerned that most apps won't be ready for quad core as most of them at the moment aren't even optimised for dual.
 
I'll wait and see what the battery life is like with that massive screen.

They could have just kept it at 4.3" and I would have been happy.
