CheckROM Revolution v4.0

I'm installing it just now.

Couple of questions

Do I need to update my kernel or does the rom come with a new one?

Same question for the kitchen app?

I can't swear to this, but I think it might be something to do with RAM optimisation... your apps need to be zipaligned after accessing their unique key or it will be undone (or something like that)

The kernel will be changed when you flash the rom. You can always change the kernel after you've flashed if you don't like the one it comes with. I had to download the new kitchen app from the xda site to update it.
 
Installed 4.0 WITHOUT wipe! An absolute first for me, not requiring a wipe. Very pleased with that alone!

The ROM is running fine, flashed Siyah 2.3 and can't really see a difference.

Edit: Maxton Browser doesn't work.
 
I have a strange problem here, after I flashed the ROM, I was gonna flash Siyah, I downloaded it from the kitchen and then when I booted to recovery, it cannot find my internal memory for some reason, it waits 20 sec's and flashes anyway. I mean, everything's working fine but is this something to be worried about?

CWM cannot find my internal SD :S

Thanks shotgun mate. I'll probably stay with the default one that comes with checkrom. It's working fine so far and their must be a reason it's the default kernel.

Can anyone link me up with the new kitchen app?

Also, what is Siyah?
 
The apk on xda is 1.2.3 so I guess that's the latest one. Maybe I just reinstalled the version I already had but the option to change kitchen repository to kk5 wasn't available until after I did.
 
I did a full wipe install and had a problem with the transparent widgets pack which I tried installing first through the kitchen and then CWM, not only did it fail to work but it also caused the search box to become immovably stuck at the top of my home screen and function as a link to the "add" menu and nothing more.

Had to restore to 3.1.1 which is a shame as 4.0 seemed really smooth and quick, other mods like adv block and camera mod installed ok through the kitchen, has anyone else tried the transparent pack?
 
Just noticed that the swype version that comes with this has the edit personal dictionary option which is a nice bonus. I'd only previously seen this on the swype betas.

ok thanks going to give it a go as mine says revo rom v3.1.1 still

edit ... just deleted and put it back on now say revohdv4

It was in the last version butty.
It's due to a downgrade in Swype version back to 3.25

Is anyone else on v4 using void?
I was getting deep sleep problems, but was fine on v3.1.1
I don't get deep sleep issues on v4 with siyah however

And on the subject of v4, has anyone actually noticed any differences or improvement over v3.1.1?
I can't say I have to be honest!
 
Anyone have a problem with Kitchen app? I installed the latest APK from 4.0 pages on XDA and nothing seems to install. I've tried Siyah 2.3 , fonts, various mods, Dialers and none install. My phone boots into recovery fine on reboot but a quick message appears in recovery and then phone reboots. I installed 4.0 ROM twice. Never had issues with ROM version until now. Could CWM be problem ?

That just shows how observant I am:D

Haven't really noticed much difference. The only thing I thought was different actually wasn't. I'm not complaining though as 3.1.1 wad good so if its practically the same we've got another good rom on our hands.

you need to be on a non-siyah kernel for the flashes to work properly, as Siyah references internal+external SD cards differently to the others it seems.

Just select the mods etc. click apply, then download, but do not install.
Instead, reboot into recovery and flash the zips from there.
the mods go into download/checkrom_revo

what firmware were you previously on?
 
How are people finding the battery usage on this rom? I've noticed quite a bit of drain so far. unplugged at 6.10am this morning and by 6.30pm I had only 40% left. This was with very light use. Nowhere near as good as normal.
 
I am finding it excellent, although I did move to the DK2.3 kernel immediately.

That said, 8 hours on battery - 1 hour screen on, 1 hour calls, whatsapp, facebook/twitter syncing per hour, gmail all day, SMS using handcent, FBReader for 30 minutes(ish), played coindozer and Dragon Fly for around 25 minutes, some wifi, network mode set to automatic, auto-brightness off and brightness at around 10%.

So, not major usage, but moderate....currently on 83% as I type

Oh, and smartass v2 governer being used (100-1200)

I am impressed so far :)
 
i found my battery was running down far too fast, down from 100% to 15% with medium use over the course of 8 or 9 hrs with DK kernal.
decided to do a full wipe and flash eveything again, will see how it gets on tomorrow.

i'm finding that even with full wipes, and reflashes, it still seems like there are parts remaining from previous roms, stupid things like my lockscreen image never goes to standard, its always a wallpaper i put on it months ago.

so i'm also thinking that maybe previous crap is causing battery drain to be so bad.
not sure but if it keeps up like this i will have to look into a full reflash of original software to get a clean phone again. just a PITA installing all my apps and settings.

This browser preinstalled on the rom? Wondered where that came from. Yep errible browser. No pinch to zoom. BAck to Opera for me :)
